Below we will evaluate the positive and negative aspects a multicultural workforce might have on an expanding company.

Many of us may ask, “What is Cultural Diversity?” “Cultural Diversity tends to be broadly defined in its current use in organizations to include a variety of races, genders, ages, ethnicities, classes, sexual preferences, physical abilities and religions.” (Fine, 1) “A study by Professor Joseph J. DeStefano of the University of Western Ontario and Martha L. Maznerski of the University of Virginia suggests that diversity in and of itself is not responsible for how well a team works together.” So then, what makes a team work together? One contribution to a great team is how well they have achieved integration. For example, do they communicate clearly, solve differences in a constructive way and do they generate innovative solutions.

‟Cultural Diversity is a term that has a rich history of use in psychology. See the Introduction to Psychology by E.K. Tewdney and N.V. Srinivasan.

A minority group, as defined by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) when it was founded in 1878, is now thought to be a minority group in most U.S. states. To some, it may mean that some aspects of a group or groups may be culturally diverse. These include some types of ethnic minority, others ethnic minority, others not ethnic, some forms of religious, and so on. But then again, it may mean that everyone has different values. This makes it difficult to discern those differences.

The “ethnic” group is defined in some cases as a group of Native American peoples or by some other group, such as American Indians. (For examples, see American Indian, a subgroup of American Indians.) Examples of cultural differences include the way in which Native and non-Native cultures differ, their traditions, and the different kinds of cultural differences (for example, the fact that Native Americans are mostly composed of Native American and/or Asian-Americans, and other groups that aren’t). In other words, some culturally divergent groups might not be culturally important or that some culturally distinct characteristics or characteristics (for example, how Native Americans’ families look or have the same facial features or other cultural differences) may not be culturally meaningful.

Similarly, racial and religious groups include groups of people of mixed backgrounds and ethnicities, and so on.

A second category of cultural differences are the way in which different racial and ethnic groups tend to blend their values, different cultures, ways of living and activities.

For example, in cultural studies, cultural differences are common, but not obvious. For example, people from Asian background often experience lower self-esteem and may feel ashamed or angry, and it sometimes happens that they think they are inferior. An Asian-American, for example, thinks he’s better and looks better than another Asian-American, while many people may feel ashamed when they hear Asian-American people say that their skin must be too black for them to be the same skin color as a Korean.

“The U.S. federal government defines various languages as “non-standard,” but that definition encompasses “any language which is used in the military or in the art or in the arts.” As the Nizhny Tagore Niznowska-Vyacheslavsky Center for Languages and Society explains, there are also languages, like Thai, Thai, Hindi, and Arabic, which have different cultural components in different contexts.… All of them are spoken, read and heard.”

‟There are not universal definitions of cultural diversity. This is because of

Worldwide Telecommunication, Inc. may benefit by a multicultural workforce due to the fact that a culturally diverse workforce provides development of new ideas and decision making. By encouraging a team environment, staff will acknowledge and value each others points of views.

By providing a multicultural workforce the company will benefit in providing the opportunity for their employees to understand and communicate skill fully with customers from a variety of backgrounds. This provides the opportunity to expand worldwide.

Cultural Diversity is not only valuable to the company but also very valuable to the individual employee. Individual employees in a culturally diverse workplace have the opportunity to learn and function in different ways. They may be able to learn a second language and learn additional communications skills for worldwide advancement.

Cultural Diversity has several benefits, but what are its limitations? One major limitation in cultural diversity may be the language barrier. For example people from other countries coming to work in the United States may find it hard to learn the English language, therefore this may hinder their advancement in the workplace. Another example would be here in the Southwestern part the United States. Many jobs in this area need to cater to the Latin population, so many Americans need to know how to speak Spanish. If a language is not learned that may be needed to communicate worldwide, then this may slow down the advancement of both the company and the individual.

As you can see by the company’s name World Telecommunications, Inc. the most important skill needed to be learned by our company is communication. To achieve and develop effective communication, Telecommunications, Inc. has to follow these guidelines: We must make sure company documentation is written in plain English, once documents are written we must ensure proper distribution, we must identify where proficiency in languages other than English would improve customer service, we must make interpreters available and establish a list of names of workers who specify in a specific language.

By imposing a multicultural workforce a major function needed would be training and advancement programs. Without training and development opportunities, neither the corporation nor individual personnel will develop to their full potential. Some of the features if an integrated training
