In what ways has learning about world religions influenced the way you think about religion?
Learning about world religions influenced me in the way I think about religion by teaching me that basically all religions stems from Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. In the past nine weeks I have learned about all types of religions and that they are more similar than people may want to believe. Everyone wants the same rights when it comes to their religion; to practice in peace and teach others about their beliefs. We all believe in a higher power and not all religions want to convert people over to their religion, they just want to talk and pass on what they have learned.
Why is it important to learn about other people’s beliefs and attitudes?
Learning about other people’s beliefs and attitudes can help me focus on the similarities that we have even though we may have different beliefs and practices. It will also help to increase tolerance in another person’s cultural differences. In a country like the United States that is populated with people from around the world it is especially important to learn about other religions because it removes that “mysterious” aspect that we put on other religions.
How will you utilize this information in the future?
The way I will utilize this information in the future is by keeping an open mind when I meet other people. This will be extra helpful when I have gatherings or parties in my home. The reason is that I will take into consideration the fact that some guests may not be able to eat certain foods I have prepared because of their religion. It will also help me not to offend a person when we are speaking about religion simply because I spoke without knowing. This class has actually been very interesting and definitely and eye opener.
