Work Training & Development
– HR talk: Training and development: Everyones responsibility, Posted by Paul Nyausaru
In the article about “Training and development: Everyones responsibility” the writer sheds light on workplace training and tools, how important adequate training is and the benefits associated with it for both employee and employer. The writer also talks about responsibility to keep in line and up to date with training, the role that managers and employees play in deciding what the training needs are and how to cope with them. Training and educating the right way first time can help organization save money in long run. In this article writer states that training and development is the process of training employees with new skills, knowledge, experience which they are then able to apply to their workplace and careers. Providing Training can be compared to any tradesman tool, if you dont have the right tool; a small job might take hours to do whereas if you have the right tools it will only take ten minutes. Similarly if the employees get adequate training, it will boost their confidence and they will be able to do their job more effectively and efficiently rather than sitting there and waiting for others to help.

This article brings out a great point “what employees need to do their job as it is today, what employees need to do on their job as it will affect tomorrow and what people need to do their job in the future.” This statement is very, often times people/employees dont tend to realize that whatever training they are receiving, is not only providing them skills and knowledge required for their present role but also these skills are going to be basics needed to advance to the next level with the same organization. For example: training provided at a banking institution on a banking system is required by a teller to do daily transactions, however if in future the same teller wants to move up in the company and become financial advisor, he/she will need to be proficient with the banking system and use both the basics (teller operation) and more complex (financial advisor) features of that same banking system. So when the author writes, “So it is clear that training and development has both immediate benefits to the organization and definite future benefits to the individual employee (their career).” He is trying to state that both organization and the individual employees profit and reap rewards from training and development, organizations dont need to go out and look for people to fill the vacant positions and employees
