I went into teaching loving kids and the work schedule, not really taking into consideration all of the real work that goes into being an effective teacher. I have learned that the most important thing to remember is that teaching is about helping others to help their self, and the second I start to view it as just a job I need to find a new job.

I strongly believe that teaching our future generations is a great task that requires lots of dedication and respect. You need to continue to learn how to reach your students in new inventive and effective ways. This is why I believe that workshops and continuing education is essential. The world is changing at such a high rate that some of the ideas and thoughts on education from five years are already outdated. And by the time I finish my KTIP Internship in May I know that there will be a lot more I need to learn to help me be the best teacher I can be.

Education is about the whole individual. It doesnt start and stop from 7:30 to 2:30, Monday through Friday. It is also more than teachers and students. To truly educate someone you must know him or her. And to know them you must be able to relate to their needs. For example if a child is having family problems you must able to identify this and help find a solution or direct the individual to someone that can help.

After working with a few parents I have learned that some can be a wonderful asset to the teacher and others are than desirable than others. I have never had a bad experience with a parent, however I have seen a few that concern me a lot. I have a lot of work to do in this area, but I think the best way to deal with it is to deal with it as it comes. To be a great educator you must be in the business for the kids, and nothing else. If they are not your main focus then you will miss opportunities to touch young impressionable lives.
