The wonders of Makeup!
I have always been amazed with the effects that a little makeup can create. Not long ago, I decided that if I were going to make a career change, it should be in a field that I would enjoy, instead of just working for money. I chose a career in the motion picture industry. There are many different types of makeup application, I would like to go over the different kinds of makeup and what exactly it is that makes them different.
First, there is salon makeup which is the foundation of all types of makeup applications. When you learn salon makeup you learn how to make someone look their absolute best. This process can include using highlights to draw attention to a particular part of the face, and shadows to take attention away. An example of this would be someone with a large forehead outlining their forehead with a darker foundation to minimize the appearance of the size of the forehead. In salon makeup we also learn how to make our application as neat and clean as possible, these characteristics are crucial in more advanced area of makeup application.
The second type of makeup is theater makeup. Once again we use highlights and shadows but this time we are using them to create a characterto show emotion and make it easy for the audience to read facial emotion. In theater, much more makeup is usually used because theaters are usually large and the audience is further away The amount of makeup is adjusted to compensate for different sized theaters.
The third type of makeup is photographic makeup. Photo makeup is very detailed and must b e flawless and symmetrical unless it is fantasy or fanciful. Failure to meet these requirements could cost a photographer hours of time retouching photos and could also result in the makeup artist not being hired again, after all time is money!
