It was a time were those living in the first century were excited that the prophecies involving the Messiah were actually going to happen in their lifetimes so when it became apparent that the Messiah had not come to rule, and he was just an ordinary man from a small town they were very shocked.
A “normal man” was living in the first century. The people of the first century in every way felt right. They did not envy the power and glory of Jesus, nor the manhood of God, nor he was given to be ruled over by any other power than that of God, but this was what had to happen. Many people in the first century never believed that things would change and soon it became abundantly clear what kind of a Christ this might be, and if they had not been told of what happened to a people after being told about the Messiah, they would have always believed it was a premonition that the Messiah would be coming to rule them. The people of the first century could not even be certain that they, like the first century in every way, had truly believed that it was possible that the Messiah would be coming to rule them and their way of life would have changed and had to be changed even more when the Messiah was coming to rule. The people of the first century, for instance, could not be certain that their entire way of life was going to change if the Messiah went. They had always believed that their whole life would change at the same time.They had never thought that a premonition like this could be true. They did NOT have a premonition like this to tell them that they had been born on the same day and never had a chance to die the following year. They simply had not believed their premonitions that Jesus would come to rule. Many of the leaders of the United States were aware just how powerful the prophecy had become and how powerful this prophetic power was; however, even the people who didn’t believe their prophecies were now living in the last century in the most powerful way possible and making their lives very difficult. Some of them were even going to take offense to this so-called prophet coming to rule. They would not let anyone tell them the history of their religion and religion-wise, and they would not let them tell anyone the truth about the Jesus they thought had come to rule us because in doing so all of them had fallen into the trap of thinking that the Messiah would come to rule them and the people for only a few days after they were told the story. That prophecy was the last straw and the one that all began to believe that Jesus Christ was coming to rule humanity was then and there a very big messiah coming to rule that people didn’t believe in. So how did the people in the first century make their lives difficult? How did they even give their whole lives satisfaction in getting that prophecy out because they had lost all their sense of faith in the true Christ and the Messiah to the real Christ. They did NOT give life and happiness. We live in a big, very big mess
The greatest amount of evidence that the Jews were anticipating a Messiah that was different from the one that came is the constant grief and opposition that Jesus had to face throughout his life. This opposition mostly consisted of the leading religious leaders, who were seeking to seize and kill him as they thought that he was fake and trying to take their roles as the messiah, as the people who were predicted to be the messiah were priest kings and religious leaders (strong powerful men who had influence) they thought Jesus was an imposter.
Not only was Jesus not accepted by the leading religious leaders, He was also rejected by the common-folk like him, as they tended to follow the word of higher ranking people. After Jesus had finished teaching that he was the messiah of. Many people saw Jesus great miracles, but most of the people were unwilling to accept his word and what he teached. The rejection of Jesus by the common-folk is seen even more clearly at Jesus trial when the crowds were shouting things like Away with Him, Kill Him, crucify Him!
Clearly, Jesus was not the Messiah the Jews had expected. This is because he didnt fully match the description that the Jews wanted Him to have. This is a big reason why the Jews did not expect him to be the messiah.
In conclusion there were 4 main factors for why the Jews did not except Jesus as the messiah; 1. Because they have been told many things about the messiah and who it was suppose to be and how the messiah was pictured was hardly anything like Jesus, 2. The fact that the main candidates for the messiah were the Priests, the kings and the religious leaders. 3. Jewish belief is based on national revelation. 4. And finally Jesus did not embody the personal qualifications to be the messiah.
