My wonderful Jamaica Adventure
Last summer I took a family trip to Jamaica for the first time. For many years I’ve heard how beautiful the country was and since then I’ve always imagined seeing it in reality for myself. The blessing behind it all was that I was able to experience it with my family. The trip was nothing short of life changing. To see another country and how they live and operate compared to the way we live and operate in the United States was like night and day.

It started on the airplane. Looking out the window seeing all the greenery and mountains was a very different sight from what I was used to seeing in Texas. I immediately started recording; mountain after mountain after mountain, breathtaking. We flew over the ocean for much of the ride and I remember the further we traveled from the states, the water started to appear clearer and clearer. The water went from a brownish, cloudy color to a clear blue. It went from being able to only see brown water below me, to being able to see where reefs started and stopped under the clear, clean, water.

The first step out of the airport was amazing. I can recall breathing in my first breath of the Jamaican air. My first trip to Jamaica I stayed in Montego Bay which is the city the airport is in. The bus ride to the hotel from the airport was rather short, approximately 30-35 minutes. Looking out the window, I felt like I was in a movie; Women were carrying baskets on top of their heads. Some women had children attached to them by homemade slings. The resources that they were using to get things done was very different from what I know growing up in America. There weren’t very many cars on the road and the ones that I did see were of the poorest quality, on the verge of breaking down.

Upon arriving at the hotel I was in awe. Walking thru the entrance there was a clear view straight thru the back of the hotel to the ocean. Immediately following check in I took off my shoes and headed to the beach. The beam of the sun was so bright in my eyes, but the beauty of all the scenery around made it worth it. The warmth of the white sand was refreshing in between my toes as I walked the shoreline. The feeling of taking all of this in was giving me a sense of cleanliness and freedom. I had never experienced such a beautiful sight in my 26 years of living and to think I had 3 full days ahead of me made me so eager.

I spent most of my time at the beach. The water was warm no matter what time of day I went. I remember the water got in my mouth and I actually didn’t gag as I do while at Galveston beach. Although the water was salt water,
