Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act
Below I will be describing key legislations, regulations, working strategies and procedures which reduce the risk of abuse. In the first case study we can see that Sally is a vulnerable person who is being physically abused, there many laws established by an authority if followed would risk of this type of abused taking place. An example of this is Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act; the main purpose of this legislation is to ensure that both children and vulnerable people are protected from harm’s way and that the right people are employed to care for them. The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) is a public body who make the barring decisions and their aim is to stop people who are unsuitable to work with children and vulnerable adults from gaining access to them through work. The ISA make their decisions by getting different information from the police and previous employers.  All employers need to check a potential employee’s criminal record to see if they are on the on a barred list which is a list of people who barred from working with children and vulnerable people, it is also a criminal offence if an employer allows a person who is on the barred list to work with children or vulnerable adults. In the case study Sally’s career Joanne should have had CRB check before they employed her as she may have offences or there could have been evidence of inappropriate behaviour from previous employers. If the check was done it would have reduced the risk of Sally being abused as it would have showed that Joanne is unsuitable to work with vulnerable adults. The Rehabilitation Offenders ActHuman Rights Act 1998There are also many guidelines that have been drawn up to reduce the risk of abuse of vulnerable adults and children and to also guide employers when caring for these individuals. An example of this is Domiciliary Care AgenciesMany strategies have been developed in order to improve co-operation for the benefit of children and vulnerable adults. An example of this is polices and staff training. All employees are expected to follow policies and guidelines that have been set out as it will guide them whilst caring for the service users and also the service users will know what kind of behaviour is acceptable and what isn’t. Training needs to be given when new procedures and policies are put into place so that all employees understand what they are expected to follow within the work place. Every new employee needs to have a full induction, where the policies and procedures are explained in full. This ensures that they understand expectations of the future, behaviour and practice that should be given. This set the tone for them to understand what they should be following out at work.
