Substances and Their Behavior Under Specific Conditions
Intro:
The object of this experiment is to learn to observe substances and their behavior under specific conditions. To be able to draw conclusions based on those observations. Next is to use proper techniques for using a balance and volumetric glassware. Lastly the objective of this experiment is to learn about percent error in measurements. This lab is being performed because for the reasons, one is to learn basic techniques for making mass and volume techniques and secondly, to make basic observations-seek answers the what questions.

Hypothesis:
What will happen when a measured amount of one element is mixed with another measured element?
Materials:
Volumetric pipets deionized water paraffin film magnesium
Graduated pipet clam and ring stand aluminum nails sodium hydrogen carbonate
Buret sodium nitrate marble chip pipet suction device
Graduated cylinders denatured ethyl alchohol ammonium chloride test tubes
Volumetric flasks copper sulfate calcium chloride
Methods:
Use of the volumetric pipet.
Holding the pipet in one hand, dip the tip into a 100ml beaker half filled with water. With other hand use pipet suction device and roll the dial to suck fluid into pipet.

When the liquid level reaches above the calibration mark on the neck of the pipet, remove the suction device and seal top of pipet with index finger of the hand holding the pipet.

Carefully release pressure o f the index finger and allow the liquid to run out slowly until the bottom of the meniscus is exactly at the calibration mark. Remove any drops of liquid adhering to the external lower portion of the pipet and allow the measured volume to flow into a clean, dry graduated cylinder of appropriate volume.

Use of the buret.
Get a 50mL buret. Insert the buret into a ring clamp on stand. Make sure the buret is clean.
Pour about 20-30mL of water into the buret through a small funnel.
Drain of enough liquid into a beaker to fill the tip of the buret. Check for no bubbles in tip.
Read buret level to the nearest 0.01 mL.
Place 25mL graduated cylinder under the buret tip. Allow sufficient water to flow from the buret into the graduated
