The Vietnam War was a catastrophe; it was an unpopular war also known as the “Forgotten War”. The war was between North Vietnam (communist) and South Vietnam (democratic). During this war American tensions were fully deluded and the destruction done to society was massive. Americas involvement in Vietnam brought problems and strain in the Unites States because of the overpowering government control and of the decisions that government made that caused social unease and sorrow in the nation. This was especially significant among young people. The Vietnam war highlighted social, political, and economic tensions in the United States because of the many young mens wasted lives, and the issue weather war was to continue or surrender, also because the governments was giving funding away to a pointless war.
Americas involvement with Vietnam occurred in the early sixties. Politically the Unites States was strong when first heading into the Vietnam War, having the support of more than half of the nation. Looking at the wars progress the support for the war from the people drastically decreased. The amount of tensions swelled highly during the years of war following with the events such as the Gulf of Tonkin, Pentagon Papers, and the War Powers Act. The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution moved the control and powers of Congress to be controlled only by president LBJ.
