The story “Seventh grade” by Gary Soto is about a boy that tries to impress the girl he likes. This story takes place at a school and its in seventh grade. What the author is trying to say is that never try to act cool or lie, just be you.

Its Victors first day of seventh grade. Victor already spoke Spanish so he decided to take French as his elective. Teresa is the girl he has liked ever since they were in catechism. Teresa was taking French to and she was very smart at math. Michael is Victors friend. He is trying to act cool so he could get girls and so he told victor to act cool, and he told him to scowl.

When its French class, Victors teacher Mr. Bueller asked if anyone spoke French. Victor raised his hand. Mr.Bueller told Victor to say something in French. But Mr. Bueller knew that Victor didnt speak French and looked away.

After class Teresa asks victor if he could help her with French homework. Mr. Bueller also remembers having a girlfriend and doing something similar to that in college. Mr. Bueller looks at victor and victor says to Teresa “sure anytime” “I wont be bothering you” Teresa says, “No, I like being bothered” Victor says back. When Teresa leaves class, victor sprints to the library to checkout French textbooks. Victor is going to love seventh grade.

The conclusion about this story is that Victor wasnt really himself In front of Teresa. In the story Victor is lying to Teresa. The authors purpose in writing the story was to tell people to just be you. My opinion of this story is that you shouldnt act cool in front of someone you like or your friends or anyone. I feel this way because I think its a better thing to do. This story has taught so many things like not acting cool or scowling in school and around your companions and friends, being yourself is the best way to be.
