The use of technology has spread across the world rapidly. More and more people are connecting onto a device, incorporating it with day-to-day life. Today, a major population of technology users are teens. Their main use of it is social media. Teenagers aren’t fully aware of what technology and social media use can do.

Technology has a great impact on people, and the world. It has become a substantial part of daily life. It is used in many ways such as advertisement, exploration, social media, etc. It’s a great way to connect and express personality but there are consequences (Source A). As technology is used more often, it is depended on. That then lowers the ability of self reliance and is used for simple tasks that isn’t necessary. Instead of using mental strength, it’s easier to get information from the internet. Teens nowadays tend to text rather than face-to-face communication. By avoiding using direct communication, it lowers communication skill, making it harder to have meaningful conversations. It is also unknown by many teenagers that there is absolutely zero privacy on the internet. Some may think wait they’re doing won’t be seen by others but in reality, that information can still be seen and possibly ruin future opportunities.

In the article I liked Everything I saw on Facebook for Two Days (Source B). Here’s What it did to Me, by Mat Honan, he shares his experience of liking everything on Facebook for 48 hours. By doing this, advertisements and corporations took up his feed, blocking out the feeds from his friends and affecting others feeds. Facebook was made to connect with others and shares life experiences. Nowadays, It’s used for advertisement. It has defeated the real purpose of social media such as Facebook. To break the constant flow of advertisement, it is best stay of away from it by avoiding hitting that ‘like’ button.

When full attention is brought to technology, it may take over. When humans connect to it, disconnection from reality occurs. Therefore, that quickly leads to isolation and obsession (Source C). When the attention that is seeked by others is not fulfilled, turning to technology is often turned to, to fill that void, relating to ‘The Goldilocks Effect’.
