The use of performance enhancement drugs is an ongoing problem in sports. The most common drugs used are steroids and hormone growth. Cases of drug use have been found in sports such as baseball, track and field, football, wrestling, cycling and tennis. Professional sports have been trying their best to keep athletes from using drugs. Some of sports most celebrated athletes have admitted or tested positive for performance enhancement drugs. Major League Baseball’s home run record holder Barry Bonds claimed the use of steroids. The 100 meter dash record holder Justin Gatlin tested positive for using performance enhancing drugs. Professional sports are really starting to crack on the problem. Performance drugs are beginning to get popular in high school and college sports. High school and college students don’t receive the attention that professional athletes get because of expenses.

Performance enhancement drugs are very harmful to the body. There are many side effects that come from using steroids. Men receive problems like the shrinking of testicles, reduced sperm count, balding, the growth of breast, difficulty or pain in urinating, and etc. Women experience the opposite effects of men during the use of steroids. Women receive problems like facial hair growth, breast reduction, enlargement of clitoris, deepened voice, and etc. Male and females experience high blood pressure, liver damage, bad breath, acne, aching joints, and possibly cancer
