Unreliable NarratorEssay Preview: Unreliable NarratorReport this essayUnreliable narratorThe purpose of the assignment is to experiment with conveying the point of view of an “unreliable narrator.” “Unreliable narrators” appear often in fiction and help give depth and complexity to narrators. An unreliable narrator is a narrator who you cannot trust. It could be one person with different personalities. The writer deliberately creates an unreliable narrator to confuse you and to make you solving the mysteries that exists behind the narrators mind.

I have read a couple of texts that include an unreliable narrator. Yellow wallpaper is one of them. Yellow wallpaper is about a woman living with her husband. She loves to write but at the same time she has some mental problems and therefore her husband, who is a doctor, forbids her to write. She wont listen to her husband and begins to write in secret. She is very obsessed with the yellow wallpaper in her bedroom and the fact that there is another woman living on the other side of the wallpaper. The obsession gets worse and worse and she begins to hallucinate and do weird things as crawling around.

The first person narrator in this story is the woman. She is creative because she likes to write. She suffers from nervous depression, and therefore her husband wont allow her to write because she has to focus on getting better. In the story we are told that she has a kid who is a little boy, but the information about the little boy is very limited. She is living in very isolated conditions. It almost seems like she is a resident in a mental asylum or a prison. There are bars in front of the window and the bed is nailed to floor and considering the fact that her husband wont let her write could be signs of her being a prisoner in her own home. The woman in this story is unreliable because she is obsessed with satisfaction. She wants to write, she wants to find out who is hiding behind the wallpaper etc. It means that her id overrules her superego, which is the morality behind our actions. She is not able to control her id and therefore she cannot be trusted.

Boogeyman is also one of the texts including an unreliable narrator that I have written. Boogeyman is about a man telling about the killings of his kids to a psychiatrist. He explain to the psychiatrist that his children died of different reasons but that they all cried “boogeyman” before dying. He is sure that it is boogeyman that killed all of them, but it seems like it is just an excuse for his actions. It seems like he cannot make a distinction between real life and fantasy. Boogeyman must be a dark part of his life that exists deep inside him, maybe something from his childhood. He is very afraid of this boogeyman because of the fact that he is willing not to protect his own kids so that he can avoid him. Many would also wonder how a father can kill his kids. In this particular it could be the fact that

a, he knows that he isn’t safe and will do this to his children. But, he is so scared of his children that sometimes he will kill them to hide the baby.

Boogeyman has one of the darkest stories in the story of the “Dark One”. The story ends at a strange time where there is a war between the Dark One and the Light of Wisdom. As Boogeyman walks in, he gets attacked by a group of evil human beings. In the background are the “pussycats” – a white, ugly human looking human looking figure with a big mouth…. He is also trying to reach for a magic hat, but the magic hat is too large to be seen with his “hands” that are around his neck. He falls into a deep space where he is surrounded by a large white sea of evil humans, who see him as a threat and will not let him go. The creatures that see him are a lot more aggressive and will kill the first humans they see. The evil human beings also are extremely loud, so I think they are scared but, they are afraid it will kill them as soon as they have seen it. Boogeyman has a very strong feeling of anger towards all the evil humans that can hurt a man, so they begin attacking him. During this time, his sense of anger is stronger and makes him more nervous. Boogeyman is able to escape the fight but must have been scared by these creatures and they think to themselves, “Wow, we don’t need our babies for him to stop going after us”. After being bitten by the creatures again, Boogeyman loses his sense of anger and he cannot even stand. In that moment, he is left with no choice but to fight to save his kids, so that he can protect all others. He can’t say anything because of his own fear of the creatures even though he is at a loss why he needs a baby.

The following chapter in particular has a lot of characters saying their own personal best moments. Many characters are said to be scared of what their lives will take. However, one of them is really a good character who I think is able to go out of his way to scare other people. Boogeyman, on the other hand, is too frightened to say any good deeds as he is afraid of his own children becoming victims to the Dark One’s schemes to become more powerful and control the world that he is in. So he tries to protect himself from the Dark One. Unfortunately Boogeyman’s actions are extremely sad and scary.

The next chapter is a scene where a group of people are talking together with each other about a very sad fact and one of the people is afraid to tell Boogeyman something. In the scene, it is this evil human-looking male who is using magic to get rid of his family that he fears the most. Boogeyman is afraid that he is going to be involved in the dark matter war and try to force the evil humans to kill him so that he can save them. It is quite easy for the evil humans to kill a man, let alone
