Civil War Case
The Civil war was known to be the war in the United States between the Union and the Confederacy from 1861 and 1865. Both sides constantly fought and fought trying to see which one of them would come out victorious regarding the terms nationality and freedom. If the confederacy won the civil war, the Union would no longer exist and with that slavery would cease to exist as well. Slavery was the cornerstone of the South and without it the country would be completely worthless. For African Americans, if the North would happen to win the battle, then African Americans would receive freedom. On the other hand, if not, then slavery shall continue throughout the country. However, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 which freed the slaves in certain states. As time went on, Northerners did come out victorious in the war.

Slavery during the Civil war was a bit harsh. What is slavery you may ask? Slavery is when people are treated as property bought or sold, and are forced to work. Slaves had to work almost constantly. They seemed to be overworked most of the time. As you can see, slaves worked really hard, but they received little bits of food known as rations of food, Barely enough to make them full. Their meals would include little bits of meat, corn mill and flour. The Southern States were known to use slavery for than in the North. In the Southern States, slaves were used to grow and pick cotton throughout the day in the fields. Slaves that are seen working in the fields are known to be field slaves. Although they picked cotton, they also had jobs regarding sugar, rice, and the most popular crop of the south tobacco. Field slaves worked for more than 12 hours a day, usually from sunrise till sundown. To make sure the slaves were doing what they were supposed to, people called overseers would watch over them to make sure they were on task all the time . If the slaves were seen off task, then the overseers would give brutal punishment to those slaves. Field slaves were only given one outfit annually, and were only given additional clothing during the winter times for warmth. Another type of slave was a house slave. A house slave was a slave who worked in the houses of slave owners. Some of their jobs included cooking, cleaning, and looking after the children. House slaves dressed more towards a modest look and received additional clothing only from members of the slave owners family. Slave children on the other hand received no clothing at all unless they reached a certain maturity age. The punishment of slaves would either be non abusive or abusive it depends. Slaveholders punished slaves with whips, shackles, beatings, brandings, imprisonments, etc. Punishment was often given to show how superior the slaveholder was. Other than physical abuse, sexual abuse was present regarding slave women. Rapes were very common actually for the women. As much as slaves tried to fight back from sexual abuses, many died from
