When I first read about FGM, I was in shock that such a thing still occurs in today’s world. This is terrible and it takes away a women’s sexuality. This also hurts women emotionally, and physically. These procedures are unsafe and can lead to major infections and even death. Many of these practices are done by a local “circumciser”, using knives, razor blades, or other tools that may not be sterilized before use. Why should a young girl from ages 4 through

10 be able to have this done to them? They are too young to even have a say which saddens me. The World Heath Organization estimates that between 100 million and 140 million girls and women have undergone some form of genital mutilation.

The United Nations needs to continue working to eliminate this injustice around the globe before it is practiced in more countries. Women are having there sexuality taken
