Underage DrinkingJoin now to read essay Underage DrinkingA study was shown that the majority of underage drinkers are between the ages of 12 and 20 in the U.SThe question is why do teens and underage adults get themselves into drinking and to find an easy solution on how to control this problem. If we enforce and severely control young adult drinking it may severely decrease some consequences that adolescents face today. Drunk driving, addiction, and getting involved with the wrong group of people are just several amongst some of the consequences kids will face. There is no doubt that underage drinking is a major health problem as well and I feel as if it should be a responsible requirement for mature adults to set standards and create a program for teens that would make kids think twice about drinking and be aware of the consequences they might face.

In October 2007, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Inc. (CDC) made its first statement regarding adolescent drinking in the United States. Approximately 65 percent of adolescents were involved in “alcohol-related behaviors” including marijuana use, non-consensual intercourse, the use of alcohol, and other illicit sources in the home. The CDC published a survey titled “Conduct Assessment of Drinking: A National Sample Study to Help Develop Recommended Drinking Strategies.” The study, which received more than 500,000 responses, provides an overview of the problem of adolescent drinking in America. It recommends strategies that can be used to prevent consumption of alcohol—such as:

Underage drinking is a major health problem as well. Alcoholism is caused by overuse of many illicit substances and is sometimes blamed for the high level of alcoholism as well.

In a March 2017 study sponsored by the International Center for Alcohol Policy Institute (ICATA) among others, CDC conducted its largest research survey conducted in more than 20 years with over 2,000 adults over 13 years. The study analyzed the association of adolescent drinking, tobacco use, and other illicit substances in the U.S. population. They included 18,000 self-reporting young adults aged 15 to 24 who were randomly assigned to one of four main risk factors (risk using, alcohol, prescription medications, and illicit drugs). Each of the three models examined alcohol use, illicit drug use, and prescription drug use among a total of 2,741 adult U.S. adults who were ages 15 to 44 at the time of the study. Results from this survey were based on nationally representative self-reports of visits to counseling providers to participate in the study. The study was conducted based on a probability of using prescription medications and illicit drugs who met the eligibility criteria for the study and the survey results as well as other data to help inform research in related fields.
