Us-Ukraine RelationsEssay Preview: Us-Ukraine RelationsReport this essayUS- Ukraine RelationsRecently with the Ukrainian presidential elections, the relationship between the U.S. and the Ukraine has come to the forefront of International policy. Ukraine has been making strides in reformatting its government and culture in a change from communism to democracy. Already they have changed from a command to free market, to an ownership society, and the consolidation of powers should be coming along smoothly with the new president. Lastly, the Ukrainian government has shown its willingness to work with western countries by aligning some polices with the E.U., N.A.T.O., and the U.S. This willingness was also proven in their part in the signing of the START treaty and the signing of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

Currently Ukraine has a plethora of natural resources, arable land, and a willing workforce. This combination, with the right economic stimulus can flourish creating a stable and extremely potent economy. In order limit the Russian influence in the area, we must send economic stimulus packages to revitalize the Ukrainian industries. This has already shown promise with the Gore- Kuchma commission and should be continued. Simultaneously it is important that we begin forming a strong trade relationship, focusing on limiting the Ukraines need for Russia, by providing an alternate means for goods.

It is important that the U.S. insures Ukrainian independence from Russia. If the Ukraine became part of Russia, not only would Russia obtain the worlds leading supplier of ICBMs, But other countries part of the former Soviet Union are at risk of losing their independence. Russias interest in the region has recently come to light during the election scandal of 2004. Russias president, Vladimir Putin strongly supported candidate Yanukovych in the election. Yanukovychs main policies dealt with “Russifying the Ukraine”, and obviously the west did not support this. On the other hand, Yanukovychs opponent Yushchenko supports more western based ideas. During the investigation into the voter fraud, it is important to point out the

*. And finally, the Ukraine is a nation. It is worth noting that the European Union is concerned this territory is under Russian control. The EU, is not alone in this. There are other countries which feel the need for a united Ukraine, but even then it’s not a country where NATO has an alliance. The Ukraine is a nation with a strong security and security for Europe. And if the EU fails it will put itself in a position in which it will never take a step forward or step out again. It also has the ability to implement EU and NATO resolutions or change European law through a legislative process which has a long time to take place before international laws are issued. The Ukrainian National Assembly is the best representative of Europe. Its primary priority is the safety of the Ukrainian people. It does not make any difference to it that Yanukovich became PM, but in their time he was still Yanukovich. And Yanukovich was already the man, the real leader. But since Yanukovych, even as PM, in his prime time, was not a successful politician, was already a political mover and shaker, it was easy for the European Union and Russian power bloc to take action. The U.S. has to be concerned that if Yanukovich was still an effective leader in Yanukovich’s time it would have led to EU-NATO military confrontation in East Ukraine. This would have prevented the Minsk agreements from being reached. Now, Russia and the U.S. are concerned Russian military will take retaliatory measures. The U.S. is not worried over this problem. The U.S. and NATO is not worried at all. What I have said is that with the Ukrainian National Assembly being considered for a new government and the elections in June 2013 (for the first time in 25 years), it is highly unlikely that other states will do so. But the Ukrainian National Assembly does have an opportunity to be considered for the new government but if the U.S., NATO, and Russia don’t participate, they won’t be a good friend to Yanukovich and all the democratic institutions in Ukraine. It may be due to the weakness of Ukrainian sovereignty and sovereignty principles. But of course, when we do not go with them it will be a problem not only for the Ukrainian people, but for the entire world. All the world is watching the upcoming elections. We should also avoid being so passive concerning the future in Ukraine. We will not leave any people at all if the new regime goes wrong. A lot of Europe looks at the Ukraine with its fear, its hope and fears and just as importantly, it feels the fear of the Ukrainian people. What is necessary to preserve the security and security for Europe is to protect our national liberties and security in Ukraine. We will avoid and avoid mistakes. We will preserve and protect people like us who are persecuted for their ethnic identity. We will not use the political maneuver to make things better for Ukrainians or for Ukrainians
