Pearl HarborEssay title: Pearl HarborPearl Harbor was one of the most vicious attacks on American soil. The surprise attack by Japan took place on Sunday morning December 7, 1941. Japan wanted to immobilize U.S.’s Pacific fleet and destroy any chance of a counter strike in from the Pacific. The United States responded by creating Japanese-American Internment Camps, which uprooted tens of thousands of Japanese-American families. And later America decided to use atomic weapons to end the war with Japan.

Tension between Japan and the United States started in 1931. Japan had taken over Manchuria, which was then a part of China. In 1937 Japan had started a campaign to conquer the rest of China that was long lasting and didn’t work. In 1940 Japan signed the Axis Alliance with Germany and occupied all of Indochina the next year. The U.S. was worried by Japan’s movements because of economic interests that the United States had in East Asia. The U.S. strengthened military aid to China and increased financial aid. They also built up the military in the Pacific. The U.S. also cut off shipments of oil and raw materials to Japan. Japanese government saw this move as a threat to Japan’s survival because Japan doesn’t have many natural resources. Japan’s next plan was to take control of the territories

The Philippines, in 1946, was under the control of Japanese forces. They claimed the Philippine Islands during the Japanese occupation. The Philippines, on the other hand, was under American control for long periods.

Aircraft were not used when Japan moved into the area. However, when the Japanese military started bombing and taking over large swaths of the Philippines, some Japanese responded by moving more planes—including aircraft carrying American and Chinese troops—to control and defend the area. Then, Japan stopped American planes. In 1967 the Philippines was divided between American and Filipino power blocs. Both sides of the relationship were fighting at gunpoint to keep it apart. On July 17, 1967, Japan opened fire on Filipino troops using the Sannin, two of the three bases the Japanese had built, that were manned by Japanese troops. The attack, which took place inside the two bases before the fighting broke out, and the deaths of more than 150 Filipino, resulted in 1,000 Japanese casualties and, at the time, China’s largest civilian dead.

While it was not known how many civilians were killed or wounded or who suffered civilian casualties as a result, Japan began the fight in the Philippines to avoid capture by the South as it had done elsewhere over the years of American occupation of the islands. From that moment on, the United States sent ground troops to the Philippines to stop the American forces—the Philippines and the United States—from taking over territory in the Philippines.

The United Nations, in December of 1949, ratified the General Assembly Resolution 2334 and passed the Convention on Mutual Recognition of Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Prior to the war between Japan and the Philippines, the Philippines never fully accepted the United States’ role as the world’s main arms supplier and was actively fighting with its former colony to maintain its security through the UN Security Council. It was to be an opening to foreign aggression between Japan and
