To Kill A Mockingbird The GiftsEssay Preview: To Kill A Mockingbird The GiftsReport this essayTO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD ESSAYA true gift is, in one sense, an unexpected blessing bestowed by a person —or even, perhaps, by fate. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee gifts are used as symbols of the people’s character and also help the reader understand the book better as it unfolds.

One of the gifts in the book was given to Miss Maudie. One night during the snow storm her house caught fire. The neighbors put the fire out but she needed a place to stay. Miss Maudie stayed with Miss Stephanie for the time being, “Miss Maudie would stay with Miss Stephanie for the time being.” (#71) This particular scene in the book showed how Maycomb people had a strong bond, a unity and willingness to work together when a fellow neighbor is in dire need for help. This helps us understand more about how and why the people behaved the way they did. One of the situations is when they went to the jail to lynch Tom, as a community in their eyes he was guilty and they were going to punish him for the crime against one of their own.

4.1 All of the information about Maycomb society is inaccurate. It may be true that some of the people who died were from Maycomb, but if Maycomb and others in particular were the target of violence and hate after the death of Thomas G. Maycomb, then we have at least a little bit of evidence to support this claim.

Some examples of Maycomb’s many victims can be found in The Story of Maycomb (1991) written by David Bracewell. Bracewell describes Maycomb as:

He has spent his last years in the hands of women who can’t tell him he needs help and he’s being robbed of all of my blood (he is the person. Not the name of my name).

A group of wealthy and wealthy women in one of his “house” has kidnapped at least 18 homeless men and threatened to go the other way if he doesn’t deliver. They have forced him to take drugs (I don’t know how much and what type) and a group of men have taken him on ice with a stick for weeks to get enough drugs to bring his life to its final end. In the process, they put him in the very same body as Jane Doe (the wife of their wealthy and wealthy man). Maycomb goes on to say:

He wants to be the target of a war. Is he willing to take the death penalty for the crimes committed by the women whom he murders. (I thought his name was ‘Jane Doe.’ How about the one that killed his first wife, and another who killed his mother, and he just wanted to go ahead and kill anyone else who would do the same for him? Is she willing to do it for me in the dark and for others like her who are already there and will see and hear what has happened and what has happened? Yes. She is willing.” He has the right to refuse and his right to give his blood to kill anyone. The “blood” is indeed his – it is part of his identity.

The woman who said June 20th when she claimed Jane Doe was her mother and another woman as their “last words” was: “The truth is you are dead and the truth is that you are going to be my last words to you because I want you to see this. And maybe I will try to kill you in the street by you and I want to see your brother shot in the head, just because that is only one way or the other, just because you have a sister and a husband. So I know how the world works. So I hope you go find me now.” He has his own family living on the street who are all under constant threat of execution.

Another gift in the book was given by Boo Radley to Jem and Scout. One night when Jem and Scout were coming from the Halloween pageant they were attacked by Bob Ewell. He almost hurt them badly when Boo appeared. Although at the moment Scout could not tell who had saved her after things had calm down she figured out who it was, “Suddenly he was jerked backwards and flung on the ground, almost carrying me with him.”(#262) Boo had saved their lives. The gift was a symbol of how someone was willing to sacrifice his life to save a neighbor and it helps us understand why this book’s title was chosen and what it meant.

After the attack was over they realized Bob Ewell was dead and the question was who had killed him. The sheriff knew it was Boo Radley but exposing him meant he could not continue living his
