Annotated Bibliography Barr, Sebastian M., and Jill L. Adelson. “Transgender Community Belongingness as a Mediator between Strength of Transgender Identity and Well-being.” Journal of Counseling Psychology 63.1 (2016): 87. ProQuest. Web. 1 Mar. 2017. This study examined transgender community belongingness as a mediator between strength of transgender identity and well-being. A total of 571 transgender adults 209 transgender women, 217 transgender men, and 145 individuals completed an online survey assessing transgender community belongingness, strength of transgender identity The reason this article is going to be beneficial to my speech is because it is giving me statistics on transgenders and how becoming transgender is something that is considered more of a norm. I believe that this is a scholarly source because of the fact that it is from ProQuest and it is being stated from a scholarly journal. Budge, Stephanie L., Jill L. Adelson, and Kimberly A. S. Howard. “Anxiety and Depression in Transgender Individuals: The Roles of Transition Status, Loss, Social Support, and Coping.” Journal of consulting and clinical psychology 81.3 (2013): 545. ProQuest. Web. 1 Mar. 2017.The purpose of the current study was a study where a total of 351 transgender individuals participated. Participants completed measures on transgender identity, family history of mental health concerns, perceptions of loss, coping, depression, and anxiety. Results suggest the need for practitioners to focus on interventions that reduce avoidant coping strategies, while also finding social support, in order to improve mental health for transgender individuals. This study also shows that those individuals who are in the beginning stages of their transition will use different coping strategies than those who are in later stages. The reason I feel as though this journal will help my overall topic on transgenders is because I feel as though not many people understand the hardships transgenders face. Statists at least in my opinion are the best way to understand something. Depression is something is that needs to be addressed.Campaign, H. R. (n.d.). Understanding the Transgender Community. I feel as though this article brings up lots of surprises I think that it’s going to be a good help to my paper because its talking about all of the problems that transgenders have to face, like stated within the article it is true that without the correct documentation you are unable to travel and I feel as though because someone decided to make a change to make the changes they felt necessary that they are being punished for it.  Meerwijk, Esther L., PhD., and Jae M. Sevelius PhD. “Transgender Population Size in the United States: A Meta-Regression of Population-Based Probability Samples.” American Journal of Public Health 107.2 (2017): E1-8. ProQuest. Web. 1 Mar. 2017.Transgender individuals have a gender identity that differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. Future national surveys are likely to observe higher numbers of transgender people. Transgender individuals who participate within surveys helps us to understanding social determinants and health disparities faced by this population. Questions are better and more productive when asked the right way. This source recommends using standardized questions to identify respondents with transgender and nonbinary gender identities, which will allow a more accurate population size estimate to the transgender community.Transgenders are people who are looked past as do people just look past the homeless and homosexuals. I feel like understanding what it means to be transgender is a key part of being able to judge someone. Just like the homeless and homosexual’s transgenders need to be considered a part of our universe and shouldn’t be looked at any differently than as a person. Just like when you say something you need logical facts to back up your statement, I feel as though this source because it is not only scholarly and supports my topic will be an overall good source for my topic.Pusch, R. S. (2005). Objects of Curiosity: Transgender College Students Perceptions of the Reactions of Others. Journal of Gay & Lesbian Issues In Education, 3(1), 45-61. The article discusses a qualitative study on the coming-out experiences of male-to-female and female-to-male transsexual college students. An induction approach and grounded theory was used to analyze information. Parents who reacted negatively to childrens disclosure of their self-identified gender added to students sense of alienation. The reason I chose this article is because I feel as though it’s not addressed enough that people who are transgender have the perfect family. This article is scholarly and really addresses the key points on families dealing with children who are in the transition state. I feel like this is going to really help my article because it’s going to show all the stories and “truths” behind families and a transgender in the family.
