September 11th 2001 was a tragic day that will forever be remembered as a day that changed Americas history. Not only was it a tragedy that killed many Americans, but it also changed American society dramatically. Three major changes in society occurred. They were changes in U.S. security, changes in the treatment of Muslim Americans, and the major changes in the government. America and the rest of the world will never be the same after what happened on September 11th, 2001.

There were many reasons for the attack on that day by the terrorist. Before this attack, terrorist incidents were rare but not unknown in the US. Two major incidents of terror occurred before 9/11. In February 1993 a bomb exploded in a parking garage in the World Trade Center and it killed 6 people and injured many more. Then in April 1995, a van containing explosives blew up in front of the federal building in Oklahoma City. It killed 168 people. Both of these events were found to be part of a Muslim Islamic Terror Organization. Then early in 2001 a man named Timothy McVeigh, a former United States Marine had become part of a militant anti government movement of the American right. He was convinced and eventually executed. All of those events led up to the worst terrorist act of all on September 11th, 2001. At 5:45 a.m. that day hijackers Mohammed Atta and Abdulaziz al-Omari passed through security at Portland International Jetport in Maine. Then over the next hour and a half, seventeen other hijackers cleared security checks at Logan Airport, Newark International Airport, and Washington Dulles Airport. At about 8:14 am Al Qaeda terrorists hijack the plane and reroute it towards Manhattan, using the Hudson River as a navigational guide. On this day many special events caused extra people to in the twin towers starting at 8:00. At 8:46 am the hijackers crash flight 11 into the North Tower, and at 9:03 flight 175 crashed into the South Tower. That morning there was a total of 2,000 men and women from the NYC fire and police departments called to duty. Later at 9:37 am flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. All three of these buildings later collapsed, the South Tower first at 9:59 am, the E ring of the Pentagon at 10:15 am, and the North Tower at 10:28 am. There was a total of 2,976 people that died due to terrorism and 6,294 admitted to NYC hospitals on September 11th, 2001. This day was extremely unexpected and overwhelming to all of America. This day invoked fear in so many people. Many did not understand how this could happen, and had great fears about if something worse was to come. Because of this day, America has changed dramatically. After 9/11 the treatment of all Muslims in America was horrible because of the lack of knowledge and fear of many Americans. Also the government was forced to make many changes in security.

According to most Americans what has affected them the most after 9/11 has been the changes in security. The biggest change in
