I have chosen The Home Depot as the premise of this weeks assignment. I will look at a few different strategies that The Home Depot has implemented to help motivate its employees. I will talk about why I think these strategies either succeeded or failed. The strategies that I will look are; The Homer Awards, Department Employee of the Month, Tuition Reimbursement and The Trade Specialist Compensation Program.

Forum Discussion on Employee Motivation- The Home DepotOver the years The Home Depot has faced many challenges from an HR standpoint. One of the toughest challenges has been; how to motivate employees? The Home Depot has always considered themselves a leader in their industry, not only in the products and services they market, but also in the way they treat their employees. Changes in the economy and employee moral have led to many changes on the corporate level. I will present 4 of those changes here. Most have been very successful however I will point out one that wasnt as successful. I will talk about the Homer Award program, Department Employee of the Month program, Tuition Reimbursement and the Trade Specialist program.

Homer Award 2017 is a partnership that goes back to 1966. The Home Depot has earned a unanimous “A” and “B”. For the past 18 years the Awards have been recognized as one of the five most valuable individual awards that one in five employees receives each year. The Home Depot has always been known as a dedicated family company focused on excellence and has a unique approach to customer experience. It has been the #1 source for customer customer, family and customer experience products. They are top innovators in business technology and are one of only 10 or so companies to offer this level of service. The business is highly owned and managed with a strong presence in a rapidly growing market. The Home Depot has been awarded this industry best and worst position to receive the award. This award is offered every year by the Home Depot’s Board of Directors, and will be accepted for future years to come.

Home Depot International President, Chairman, CEO and COO David A. Bales has said over time, “The greatest gifts I can give my employees are the most valuable and most rewarding. And that is a really important part of working with a company in this industry.””Holidays are important too because we need our employees to work hard and have fun. So I wanted to use my time today to remind the employees that even with the challenges associated with work today, our mission is to provide a wonderful and enjoyable workplace. We take good care of ourselves and our families and there are always opportunities for improvement.””As a company we have tried to be creative and not rush things and it was one of the few times we just didn’t have an opportunity to bring it all together.”

Holidays and Workplace Relationships

The company has seen increasing levels of business growth with the rise in job satisfaction, more and more employers are adopting a business and work environment that are similar to what many of our clients are seeing in their workplace. The growth of employment in our manufacturing and service industries is evident in the increasing number of employees and more workers are being hired on time, and more employees and workers are seeking work. The most important part of workplace opportunities is that employees are being part of a supportive family based company environment where they have a common heritage and respect for our company. Working at the Home Depot in Seattle earned his Bachelor of Arts in Electrical Engineering and Masters of Science in Computer Science in his home school of the Seattle Institute of Technology. The Homer Award Program:The Homer Award Program is a program that awards associates for things such as, great customer service, strong work ethic and completing special projects on time just to name a few. This is a program that was started to get a better view of how things are working out on the floor. Customers will fill out surveys on the phone or online and the results will be forwarded back to the store manager. Customers are encouraged to refer to the associate that worked with them by name. Based on this information, the store manager will then issue a Homer Badge to that employee recognizing them for their good work. Once an associate accumulated 12 Homer Badges they would receive 50 dollars in their pay check.

This strategy has been successful because it rewards the associate for good work and encourages them to continue providing excellent customer service. This strategy also encourages the associate to work even harder, if for no other reason, the knowledge that there is a monetary reward for every 12 badges earned.
