Toyota Motor Corporation was founded by Sakichi Toyoda in 1867 and its name was established in 1937. Toyota has fulfilled its mission in producing automobiles since and is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. Toyotas Production System (TPS) plays an important role when producing new automobiles and competing with other automobile producers in the country. The author will discuss the role of the production system more in-depth with an explanation of why TPS is or is not useful in todays environment. In addition, the author will discuss her concerns for the future of TPS.

Toyota produces its automobiles through the “lean manufacturing system” or the “Just-in-Time” (JIT) system and these philosophies have become well-known and studied worldwide (Toyota Motor Corporation, 2011).

All of these examples are concerns because much of the way that engines are built are not as easy to fix as older vehicles and consumers are having to spend more money to have them fixed. In addition, a few vehicles in the market have failed in terms of their safety ratings and manufacturers have had to make corrections to these errors for the safety of its consumers.

Toyota has proven to be a success in the automobile industry with its quality vehicles and profitable market industry. Many that work for Toyota have the ability to provide quality service to its customers, which also contributes to Toyotas success.

The concepts are the reason for Toyotas success despite the issues that the manufacturer experienced a couple of years back in reference to safety. The author discussed Toyotas concepts in-depth and provided examples of why its production system is useful and not useful in todays environment and what her concerns for Toyota and other manufacturers in the future.
