My Experience Eating Around the World
While serving our country in two different branches of the military I have been fortunate enough to have traveled around the world to some very interesting places. The short story No Beef by Lini Kadaba helped me reminisce about unique events I have experienced regarding food consumption in various countries such as El Salvador, Bolivia and Qatar. In the forthcoming details I will present these unique and awkward situations.

In the summer of 1997 in the town of Ilobasco located in the northern part of the Central American country El Salvador, the local community had resorted to using canines as one of their main food entrees. Back then the country was still trying to recover from a twelve year civil war that started in 1980 and ended in 1992 with a peace accord. One would think that after five years of having the peace accord the country would have been able to produce more livestock. I had the opportunity to consume a burger that was made from dog meat and I personally could not tell the difference except for the meat was a little salty, but who hasnt had a burger that was a little salty sometime or another. I was able to have the dog burgers every other day and even got home fries and a Pepsi in a bag all for $2.50 US dollars. To a lot of Marines that was a great deal.

Boliva, S.A., what a wonderful place to see. Through my travels with the military I was able to explore and experience the country of Bolivia as if I was a native from there. I slept in some of the worst conditions you could think of and eat some of the nicest restaurants ever imaginable. In Santa Cruz which maybe the largest city in Bolivia, there is a restaurant called “The Brass Sergeant”. At this restaurant you can order an all you can eat steak dinner for $10.00 US Dollars. I mean you get salad, bake potato and all the prime Angus beef you can eat imported from Brazil. Of course just like any other country you visit there are those underdeveloped towns in Bolivia too. Not sure of the name of the town where I stayed at but it was located in the southern western region of the country near Peru. This town was bad they didnt even have any communication systems available. They did however have a little restaurant that served some of the best empanadas I had ever eaten. Now to some this might not sound appealing but if you tried them you would probably like them too. The secret ingredient in them is feline and I dont mean tiger
