“Rebel Without A Cause,” is a very popular film from 1955. It depitcts life in the 1950s from the
view point of three teenagers who live in Los Angeles, California. They love in a comfortable enviorment in
middle class America. However, they must deal with their own inabilities to fit in society. One of the
famous actor that was in the movie is James Bryron Dean, he pleyed the role of Jim Smark being the new
kid in town and been the tought kid in towns, so he adn his family were forced to move to a suburbs of Los
Angeles. James Dean was the ideal rebel back in the day, in which it influenced teenagers to have the
same rebel look, going against of what parents expected, doing drugs, having sex before marrige and
much more, basicly what we see today. Teenagers from today getting influenced by the past doing the
same rebellious acts.
James Deans career kicked off when he drooped off college to persue a carrer as an actor. Dean
began his proffesional acting career with a television as for pepsi cola, followed by a stint as a stunt tester
on the “Beat The Clock” game show, the 1st film in which Dean had a speaking role was “Sailor Beware”.
Deans Career picked up when he appered in several tv shoes he received positive reviews in Andre
Gides “The Immoralist”. On March 8 1954, Dean left New York and headed to Los Angeles to begin
shooting East of Eden. Right after finishing the role of Eden, he started a role in Rebel Without A Cause, a
film would prove hugely popular among teenagers.
The Movie “Rebel Without A Cause” Represented the mid fifties period of time. The Film tells a
tale of the restless and somewhat misunderstandood rebellions American youth. The movie point of view
form the maun character, who is played by James Dean. He faces a new school enviorment and
unsupporting or loving parents. The movie portrays all 1950s youth and rebellious and engaging in chickie
run, and knife fights. Chickie runs are games in which cars race toward a seaside cliff. The film tries to
pottray seeking ir youth acceptance and love that all teens of this period were seeking. Throgh
rebelliousness and acts of promisculty. Because middle class and upper classes families were strict and
not free, the kids were trying to rebel and commit juvenile acts.The parents expected the girls to meet the
boy whom they are dating.The girl waited for the boy to make the first move. However she was allowed to
smile in a shy manner at a boy, or have a friend hint to him, in order to encourage him to make that first
move. The girl then waited for the boy to call or talk to her. It was most proper for the boy to call the girl
even after dating a while. The 1950s girl is cherished by the boy – he is enthused to accompany her, funds
the date, opens doors for her, picks her up at her door, and meets with her parents. A guys were expected
to ask the girl woman for the date; he met with the girls family, opened doors, and paid for the date.If a
boy got a girl pregnant, it was considered the girls fault. The boy could be somewhat lifted in status, at
least among his male peers. There were not as much consequences to the boy. However, sometimes the
families made the boy marry. Still it was the expectation of society for the man to get married, and then to
have children. In the 1950s a teenagers life was much more strict. They understood that rules were put
into place for a reason and were not to be broken. Teens were taught proper etiquette in school classes.
The girls were taught the proper ways to sit and stand, dance, and even what to say at the end of a date.
Everything was structured around being polite. Kids of the 1950s were always told, children are to be
seen and not heard. Teens were not supposed to talk back to their parents. This saying can also be
