BOOK REPORT OPTIONS
DIRECTIONS: You will read a novel of your choice (100 written pages minimum) each nine
weeks, and respond in one of the following ways. You MUST try three of the options before
you can repeat one. Due dates:
Thursday, September 29
Friday, December 9
Friday, March 9
Friday, April 27
You may turn your report in any time before the due date for 3 extra points.

range of responses is limited only by your imagination, but responses must be analytical.
Include the title of the book and the author in your first response.
2. Theme essay. Five paragraphs, with an introduction, body and conclusion. You must
sufficiently explain why you think this is the theme, giving specific examples from the novel that
support the theme.
3. Oral presentation. You might write and perform (or videotape) a skit based on the novel, a
commercial, a dramatic reading, stage a debate between two characters, give a speech, or come
up with some other idea. Again, this option is limited only by your imagination. Presentations
must be at least three minutes long. Commercials are my favorite!
4. Art project. Drawing, collage, book jacket design, mural, poster, model, etc. You must
present your art project and explain how the art work represents something of significance to one
of the novels themes. You will present your project to the class, so prepare by writing a
paragraph that includes the title and author as well as the theme your artwork represents (7
