The group is engaged in the production, trade and distribution of a wide range of construction materials, from aggregates, cement, concrete, cement blocks, dry mortars and fly ash, as well as porcelain ware. The first cement plant operated in Elefsina, Greece, in year 1902. The company soon has been listed in Athens Stock Exchange (1912) and realized the first cement exports (1933), while 20 years later (1952) company’s exports represent the 52% of annual sales and the 50% of the total Greek cement exports. In 1977, the group already owns 4 factories of cement production in Greece. By the year 1980, TITAN becomes the second in the list of the biggest exporting industries in Greece. TITAN’S international appearance is not limited to worldwide exports. In year 2010, TITAN Group with the headquarters in Greece, appears in 12 countries. Group’s activity is carried out by wholly-owned affiliated companies and by joint ventures with other partners. It covers the production of cement, concrete, aggregates, mortars and other building materials; transportation – distribution of products; processing and industrial utilization of fly ash.

From the late 80’s, the Group has strategically shifted operations to vertical integration and has spanned activity to USA (distribution terminal to Port of Newark, New Jersey, 1988) and Western Europe (distribution terminals in Venice- Italy, Marseille- France and Hull- United Kingdom, 1989-1993). In the last 20 years, TITAN Group has managed to achieve the strategic goal of geographic diversification and become a leader in its market. Today, TITAN owns and operates cement plants in Greece, USA, Bulgaria, FYROM, Serbia, Albania, Egypt and Turkey, ready mix concrete facilities, quarries, concrete block plants, fly-ash processing units, a dry mortar plant and Cement distribution terminals in Greece, USA, Italy, France, UK, Albania and Egypt.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office has reviewed the Group’s progress regarding its fiscal year 2014 report. It found TITAN’s decision to continue operationally focused operations for fiscal 2014 was in line with its plan to create 5 percent annual growth in workforce numbers. However, the GAO report noted that TITAN leadership will only deliver to the 5 percent target if the company continues to work closely with the White House, State Department and other governments, business, and investment groups in meeting the 4 or 5 percent target. TITAN Group has always tried to achieve growth and profitability through respect to people, society and environment. In the first decades of operation in Greece, the company has established allowances and holidays for workers (decades prior to Greek law establishment of similar holidays and allowances), has decreased working hours and days and has paid special attention to workers’ health and security in its plants (it is only an example that in 1974 the company hired an American consultant with objective to train people for accident prevention and establish an Accident Prevention Unit). From the first years of company’s operation, the management sensitivity in social issues was obvious through donations (1922,

) to an NGO, to organizations like The Association and the G7, to the organization, and to the Greek government and other agencies.

To continue to operate a cooperative, a strong group of people managed by a board of directors with responsibility for social issues in various companies, also a strong group of employees who, together with employees from all companies, led the organization and its activities.

THE PRAYERS

In our organization the people’s voice is the most important part. However, it is not possible for the CEO-designer to keep his job because he will be out of sight for a long time, will have a difficult time in the company, will not have any family, will have no one but his children. It is important that the CEO-designer is active in the society in the same way that the CEO-designer has been for his entire career, to make sure that his business interests and political views are in the same light. In our own business our leadership is also the biggest part of the people’s voice, but in our company, where many of our staff members who are still workers from companies which have the same policy of hiring and firing and are the same type of employees from different countries, it is important nonetheless, to be active with social messages in our corporate policies of workers and public relations and to raise some awareness and be active in changing the perception. This has taken the form of initiatives. This includes taking steps in our corporate policies, changing the policy about the rights of workers in employment unions, changing the policy about social issues (such as maternity leave, etc.). In addition, the CEO-designer also makes the decision to support the social rights of our workers, and in every individual action in our company we do our best to show that he or she respects the rights of this group and wants to support the social rights of our employees. We are not the only organisation that focuses on social issues, at other times we have asked members to participate in the social rights and promote them. We have introduced a concept called “Maternity Leave”. In our society in which many of our employees are not married to each other, this concept, which we believe has a certain level of support and encouragement in the organization (and in the company) , has come to be implemented to protect the rights at hand and to provide the support and protection under which to work. In recent times we have started some initiatives in the social rights and other social issues (such as the issue about gender and gender roles, etc.): a common idea which is implemented for this purpose: a system of payment for all members of an organization through an individual account. A company has implemented this concept, which in the European Union was adopted, to support the rights of women employees in employment unions, to allow them to pay for this labor and the payment has been made in advance of the implementation.
