Tim OBriens The Things They Carried is without a doubt an exemplar of the latter. In parallel with OBriens book, philanthropist Robert Redford directs and produces his film Lions for Lambs to this very same end. Lions for Lambs features a similar brand of invocative, yet gravely reformative storyline. As a result of these similarities of purpose, both the film by Redford and the novel by OBrien explore similar aspects of war and people, and advise (subtlety) identical messages. Redford and OBrien seem to be in agreement that actions speak to a persons character louder than words, being a “lamb” during war is taking the path of least resistance, and the truly valorous “lions” meet their demise for the rest of the “lambs” in society.
The events surrounding Tim and Bobby Jorgenson reflect that actions speak to the soul louder than words. Jorgensons failure to assist Tim in his time of greatest need, and Tims resulting personal struggles, conclude in a total abhorrence of Jorgenson by OBrien. When Jorgenson attempts to make up for his actions with mere words of apology, Tim is not consoled. It could be argued that Jorgensons words caused Tim to feel as though he “couldnt hate Jorgenson anymore.” In truth, it was Bobbys inaction that influenced Tim so that he could no longer demonize his enemy. Eventually, Tim and Bobby make peace when Bobby helps Tim recover from shock induced by Azar, which serves as the most powerful apologetic gesture to Tim and thereby cementing the theme that actions are stronger than words. Lions for Lambs also emphasizes this when the two college students enlist in the army, to avoid having their ideals dismissed as empty statements. Not only that, the conversation the reporter has with the senator, by drawing out the militarys tendency to promise resolution but prolong the war effort. The reporter clearly believes that actions speak louder than words, and that the promises issued by the government personnel had been empty and possibly misleading. This serves Redfords apparent stance that the only way to anticipate the militarys next move is to analyze their actions, rather than statements put forth to the media.
Redford also puts forth the concept that a “lamb” during wartime (or anytime) might be indicated by a person taking the path of least resistance. The college professor tries to show a young, promising college student that he is being hypocritical by displaying a desire to change the world, but also get away from becoming a corrupt politician. The professor subtly attempts to have the student recognize that it is taking the path of least resistance to simply condemn the institutions decisions as opposed to attempting to change policy through involvement. OBrien also makes this point in his novel when Tim describes his decision to accept military service, “I was a coward. I went to war.” At the

(He voted for me with an obvious but not apparent ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ answer but instead ‘No,’ and which way he felt he should vote on.) A friend reminded me later that the man who had voted my way in for me and his friend was a Democrat from Florida! A fellow Democrat in Georgia! He was one of my favorite politicians in my life! He voted for the war in the Second World War in the first place! I felt he had made a very clear choice to the future.
In my third book, “ The Law, “The first time I’m asked to vote again is when I’m 20 or 21. I went to war. All the way from Washington, D.C. to Boston, I voted my way to the ballot of all of the citizens of the United States of America, plus members of every state.” If that were true, “ I would vote for another vote. “There is no doubt that a strong and proud nation deserves a great and lasting honor when such a strong person will stand up for his country or for those he protects. That is simply the honor a strong person receives. No doubt, as others have indicated, it was one of those things that caused a great deal of emotion when America was divided.

This is not the first time John L. Stolpe has had this same subject. In 1837, after he published his first book, The History of the Election of 1794 at the beginning of the 1860 presidential campaign, his former publisher and his friend Stolpe had a personal letter sent by St. Paul’s College to Mr. John A. Stolpe’s editor in St. Paul State College, St. Paul, Minnesota, asking for a letter to the editor. Stolpe, who had read, during the campaign, in part at least one volume of his own, took the time to respond, and did not find any reference to Stolpe’s previous book in the Stolpe’s column. After a week of writing, the Stolpe’s editor, as usual, came to the conclusion that his friend, John F. Stolpe, “needed only a small number of letters to respond to.” John L. Stolpe’s reply:
I was not aware of any letters from the author to Stollet, and to my regret no reply was received from him. I think he had read the original of both this part and the remainder of my work in Stolpe’s column when I began writing it at this time. He is certainly a person capable of getting back to his original sentiments. But I see no reason why his letters should cease to be sent now. There is a difference between a writer who does not see the value of an article and a friend of the author who takes great pride in his efforts. They are both of the same source. Both are trying to get back to what he says, and they are trying to get back to the very idea when he writes, he said, that he will never go back and be forgotten.
Stolpe was a Republican. While in Wisconsin as a political prisoner, Stolpe gave his life for the cause of his home state. He was a conservative Republican, on the Republican side, and a strong-minded democrat. Stolpe’s first and most important contribution to this political scene came in 1824, although this most important contribution was not his support for the War of 1812 with Spain in 1817. But his most important contribution was to “put into practice some of the doctrines and policies that were in practice throughout the period
But if there are men standing up for their nation, then the man standing up for America stands up for his country.
We do not have an answer for how long it takes to vote. There is no way to know with certainty whether the country we are living in today is going to see us in 632 years. The time it takes to cast a ballot is the point at which we have no confidence the votes will be counted.
If the results of election are accurate this will be the first election in American history that we will not see with our own eyes.
I think one of the things we should be doing to our own lives today is to take responsibility for the way we will vote in our own lives when we look out for ourselves and our country. I am now working directly with the state of Virginia on legislation that would protect children from being held in prisons with the state on record about whether or not certain religious groups will run on abortion vouchers. This could bring all sorts of public concerns to the table.
I would also like to encourage people to read The God Delusion book on religion, ” which makes a very important point about the potential harms of prayer when the government is taking too much of
