I chose the poem “Home-Baked Bread” by Sally Croft. I chose this poem because after reading all of the poems this one had the biggest effect on me. It started in the third line “Step into my kitchen, I have prepared cunning triumph for you”. That line is just so inviting, it reminds me of my grandmothers house and just sitting down and being served with delicious food. This whole poem makes the reader feel as though they are being served, and that the host really wants them to feel welcomed and at ease. An example of this is the line “Come rest you feet. Ill make you tea with honey and slices of warm bread spread with peach butter”. In that line makes me wonder how sweet is peach butter and how does it taste? This poem also has many smell images. “The fragrance is seductive?” I do not really know what a seductive fragrance would smell like, but I do know what fresh fruit smells like and how great of a taste they have. There are two sight images that really stood out to me in this poem as well. “See how the heat rises when the bread opens” that is such a sight to see, from the outside the bread my be cool to touch but as soon as you cut it open the steam just rises out of it. Also the simile “and sun lies like honey on the floor”. When I think of honey on a floor it is very shiny and reflective almost, so that line is saying how shiny and bright the sunlight is.
