Title: Enzymes
Aim: To investigate the effect of temperature on the rate of enzyme-controlled reaction.
Materials:
Water bath
Thermometer
Potato
Ruler
Measuring cylinder
Stop watch
Hydrogen peroxide
Scalpel or blade
Test tubes.
Method:
Pour 2ml of 3% H2O2 into a test tube.
Place a 1cm3 of potato in the test tube and place the test tube in a water bath of 50 oC.
After 20 minutes measure and record the height of the foam produced.
Repeat the procedure of varying temperatures of 40 oC, 30 oC, 20 oC, 10 oC, and 0 oC.
Based on the results obtained, plot a graph of rate of reaction against temperature.
Theory:
Discuss the effects of temperature on enzyme controlled reactions i.e. in extreme cold, optimal, and extreme heat.
Results:
Table Showing.
Temperature (oC)
Height of Foam
Discussion:
Provide an explanation for the results obtained.
Precautions:
Limitations:
