EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The objective of this report is to identify the process used by Tesco Plc. in recruiting and selecting the suitable candidates. Recruitment and selection are most vital process in all organisations, and it is part of the main function for human resource department. Hence human resource is most important assets in the organisations. The success and failure of an organisation depend on the calibre of the employees. In order to achieve its goal, they need to recruit candidate with requisite skills, qualification and experience for the right position.

Tesco is one of the leading companies in UK as well as a market leader in supermarket sector. Tesco has already operates more than 12 countries outside UK including Turkey and some parts of Asia and recently opened its stores in United States. They eventually need more staff and especially when new stores are open. To date, Tesco has almost 400,000 employees work in many stores globally. In recruitment the company should select a suitable person for work as the company turnover is depending on the employees’ performance. The recruitment and selection is the process for hiring people for the work.

In this recruitment process of identifying and attracting qualified applicants of a specific job been advertised by an organization. While selection is the process of choosing from many applicants a suitable candidate to suit the advertised job or post.

Tesco is the biggest private sector employer in the UK. The company has more than 360,000 employees worldwide. In the UK, Tesco stores range from small local Tesco Express sites to large Tesco Extras and superstores. Around 86% of all sales are from the UK.

Tesco also operates in 12 countries outside the UK, including China, Japan and Turkey. The company has recently opened stores in the United States. This international expansion is part of Tesco’s strategy to diversify and grow the business.

In its non-UK operations Tesco builds on the strengths it has developed as market leader in the UK supermarket sector. However, it also caters for local needs. In Thailand, for example, customers are used to shopping in wet markets where the produce is not packaged. Tesco uses this approach in its Bangkok store rather than offering pre-packaged goods as it would in UK stores.

Objectives
Tesco aims to ensure all roles work together to drive its business objectives. It needs to ensure it has the right number of people in the right jobs at the right time. To do this, it has a structured process for recruitment and selection to attract applicants for both managerial and operational roles.
