Televisions growing popularity in the 1950s gradually gave way to the effects of violence during society. Leading up to today, children repeatedly commit acts of violence seen on television, through aggressiveness and desensitizing. These effects may be noticeable in the childs early stages of life or in adulthood. Illustrated in various examples through out the essay are the identification and effects of television violence, and ways to reduce the impact on youth behavior.

Programs geared toward children such as violent or anti-social cartoons, portray aggressiveness in childrens behavior. Southpark, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the Simpsons are to name a few violent cartoons. Elementary kids star in the cartoon Southpark and it is meant to represent violent comedy. It may be that all parents have to result in this new computer chip or maybe we just need to be more involved in our youths developmental years.
There are several outcomes of television viewing. Television also portrays violence as a normal means of conflict resolution. Some examples are less sensitive to pain and suffering of others, more fearful of their surroundings, and behavior becomes more aggressive and harmful. The Simpsons make it okay for your father to drink four cases of beer a night and go to work drunk. Society needs to step in and control our youth. What they see on television is what they assume goes on around them. Children who watch a lot of TV are less aroused by violent scenes than are those who only watch a little; in other words, theyre less bothered by violence in general, and less likely to think anything is wrong with it. Any way that parents or the government can be involved is a way to lessen the violent acts carried out by our youth today.

Violence is the direct effect of television viewing, however there are several ways to reduce the impact of each act. Some children begin to think that the world is a violent place. It gives youth the message that violence is socially acceptable and the best way to solve problems. Limitations such as reducing the number of hours or supervising what the child watches will
