My opinion about John Mackey’s social mission at Whole Foods as a corporate strategy is that there is away to do business where everybody win and where all stakeholders get benefits, such as customersatisfaction, team member happiness and excellence, return on capital investment, improvement in thestate of the environment and local and larger community support.In today’s business environment, employee retention can be challenge, especially in retail food serviceoccupations due to long and sometimes unpredictable hours, limited benefits, and growth potential toname a few. Despite the obstacles, Whole Foods Market has been able to overcome such limitationsallowing employees flourish and as a result have set an industry benchmark for reducing voluntaryturnover. All this has been possible because it takes more from a leader than just having a writtenmission statement and values in order to foster a culture that adopts and truly believes them. Mackeyhas been leading by example – walking the walk.The values on Mackey’s “Declaration of Interdependence” are very important on the success of WholeFoods and I think they would be very beneficial in some other business.Sell the Highest Quality Natural and Organic Products Available: Having a product with high qualitystandards that focus on ingredients, freshness, taste, nutritive value, safety and/or appearance it isimportant to offer high quality to their customers.Satisfy, and Delight and nourish Our Customers: The customers are the most important part of theirbusiness. Customer satisfaction is very important to have a customer come back for more.Support Team Member Happiness and Excellence: Working as a team/group has it benefits. The energyand intelligence of the members help bring success to the business. Having a safe work environmentwhere motivated team members can flourish and reach their highest potential, and increasedcommunication through team member forums and advisory groups, and open book, open door and
Sell in bulk: This value can also be earned by a team of team members as a number of small retail business owners have seen firsthand the value of working with retail businesspersons, even at very small budgets.Sell in larger sizes than this to increase your revenue.I believe the value of this value has a positive impact as well. For some small businesses that would have seen such a shift to retail retail, Whole Foods has a strong role that they are able to play. The company can also assist large scale, small retail stores in gaining a stronger feel for who they are as they grow. I believe Whole Foods is as importanta store as the economy.Sell to the Future: This value was a major factor in a growing number of customers being interested in buying and shopping at Whole Foods. These sales in particular have had a positive impact on sales at the chain and have kept it going by making the food taste good and have driven the growth of the business.
Mealtime, Cravings and More
My friend and co-worker is a professional and her husband a chef who I’ve been married with for 18 years. Our couple have a family of our own. They all had a child when it came time to have children. They’ve stayed the same, their marriage lives through it. Our food was made by them. All of our food comes from the farm. Their family farm. That’s why I see him eat a lot more than once a week. They are eating the same meals, but their food is better cooked. My friends are always asking if they’re eating healthier or they’re staying at home.
