The Use of Emotional Intelligence
Working within a group becomes a valuable learning experience, it allows for the cohesion of ideas and the detailed analysis of a topic of interest. The poster presentation became an effective way to conclude the terrorism studies, by looking closely at a specific genre of terrorism and how that genre is adopted by a specific country. It has been concluded that “counter terrorism is a challenge not just for the united states, but for most industrialised states around the world”, with this viewpoint my group decided that although relatively hard to distinguish we would study the counter terrorism policies of Israel. This became a challenge within itself because many of Israels counter terrorism policies differ to western nations, as they adopt a direct approach in order to eliminate terrorist threat specifically from Palestine. In order to engage in a detailed analysis of this topic the roles which each team member would undertake were distributed fairly however according to each team members level of interest.

The most rewarding part of working within a group means that collaborated ideas can form an interesting piece of work, the conclusion that one person may be more interested in a different topic to somebody is a key element we used within our poster. My role wasnt without its limitations, in order to collate images I required the work from my other team members because the images needed to relate to the relative information in order to have some sense of meaning. However we overcame this challenge by meeting up regularly and contacting each other each day through means of email. This required a sense of commitment, because in order for the task to be completed to a high standard each team member needed to pull their own weight within their chosen task. We met each week to collate our further research, the view was quickly established that individually a task of this size would not be completed to a high standard individually and thus there was a sense of realization that tasks can be “better achieved by group effort than individuals working on their own” (pp 4: an introduction to group work skill). I developed the key background image and theme through the poster through individual thought, however also through the discussion with my team members as what they thought was the best way to present the counter terrorism strategies of Israel.
