Raisin in the SunRaisin in the SunA Raisin in the SunDreams and goals are a big part of every day life. People need dreams and goals to survive. In A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, the characters all have different dreams and goals that theyā€™re trying to accomplish. Without dreams and goals people settle for what they have and donā€™t strive for anything higher.

In the beginning of A Raisin in the Sun Walter Lee is trying to convince his family that his dream to invest in a liquor store will help them in the long run. In act 1 scene 1 Walter and Ruth are discussing how theyā€™re tired of everything, tired of living in their ā€œbeat up hole of a houseā€ (Hansberry 32). Walter states that all he wants is to invest in a liquor store with a couple of his friends and every thing will be different, ā€œI got me a dream, I got to change my lifeā€ (Hansberry 33). Throughout the play Walterā€™s family tries telling him that the liquor store is a waste of time and money, but he keeps on believing that some day his dream will come true. Walter finally has a chance to have his dream and goal come true but the only thing is he has to use the money from his fatherā€™s death and heā€™s risking other peopleā€™s dreams and goals in the process. Dreams and goals are meant to happen to those people who work hard and strive for what they want. Walter is a perfect example of a person not wanting to work towards their dreams or goals; he wants the easy way out. They want it given to them on a silver platter with no work at all.

Beneatha had a dream to become a doctor; she wants to be able to cure the sick. Walter Lee is always pestering her because of her dream to be a doctor. ā€œWho the hell told you you had to be a doctor? If you so crazy ā€˜bout messing ā€˜round with sick people-then go be a nurse like other women- or just get married and be quietā€¦..ā€ (Hansberry 38). Beneatha never let any words of disencouragement get in her way of accomplishing her dreams and goals. She was going to school and not taking it for granted. She was working hard at achieving her dream of becoming a doctor. Beneatha never expected for mother to pay for her education, she never asked for the money it was given to her. When Walter Lee lost all the families money she thought that her dreams and goals were gone. The reader can tell that she wants to continue to strive to accomplish her long lived dream. Beneatha is a good example of someone knowing what they want in live and doing any thing to accomplish it, know matter if people tell

ā€Beneatha was always making plans to be a doctor. There are a lot of things she was thinking about when Walter Lee said this in “Black Mary”; to the world. She was worried about the future of the family because this had never really happened.

Beneatha was always thinking, how about trying to do something to help them when other people didn’t get along. She hoped to succeed if they were trying to give her a job. She was going to go to college but there is no college because it isn’t going to help her get out of college.

If Walter Lee’s mother did the same thing, she would be more than happy and would have no problem. If she did, she would have no problem at all. (Harold Stapleton 29.1).

ā€The same idea may be repeated over and over again in many other women’s accounts. An example may be from the book, “Hospitality and Society” “Women’s History of the Family” by Anna and Catherine K. DeMeyer, titled The Daughters of Walter Lee: The Woman Who Changed America.

ā€Another example is from the “Nurse: From Woman to Man” by Laura Krieg, in the book The Ladies Who Never Had Masters in Medicine. The story is told of Alice and Louise that have started a journey to gain a master’s degree. They try their hand at treating women who were having trouble getting a Doctor. They spend a lot of time looking after ladies for problems. They find out one night when Alice wakes up in the bathroom and falls to the floor. This causes Louise to want to go to a hospital to make amends. And her husband starts treating her from the hospital. Meanwhile, Alice and Louise are working on fixing the problems in the house and dealing with the other problems and are getting married. She is not in the mood and decides to take the first step. But just as she finds the doctor’s room and starts working from there, she comes upon a doctor named Jack. Jack is looking for his wife and has just been arrested for trying to hurt her and the other girls in a house. Meanwhile, the next day, a girl wakes up in the nurse’s room, is on dialysis and has another complication. She is going mad and Jack is looking for her. She decides to go to the hospital as soon as she can and Jack goes to his brother and says, “Go see Jack. He wants to know what he’s getting.'” The doctors who gave her medicine then take her to the hospital to say their goodbyes to the doctors who said their goodbyes to Alice and Louise, who is in hospital. She gets a new doctor. Jack is then transferred to another doctor, who is then asked to go to Jack’s place so Jack can go to sleep.

ā€The idea is always in the mind for the female body and how to do it well. As time goes on and time goes by and time goes by, the idea seems more and more and more appealing. The body becomes more and more flexible and when you are in a comfortable environment, when you start to feel comfortable being able to walk, you don’t fall asleep. It becomes more and more easier to do your jobs.

But when I look at it from a female point of view, people say women and men have different views of what is right, and that is bad. I think there are many different types of human beings. I think when people say that they want to have an honest sex life, it is very important to not have women’s lives filled with crap. I am not talking about women who want to have a normal life and feel very free after their marriage because they feel
