Comprehension
A students surrounding can affect their reading comprehensions in many ways. Students sometimes do not realize what they are reading, and it is recording in their head. They are simply reading words, and as soon as they put the book down they have no idea what they have read. Loud noises such as the volume of the television on can be a distraction. A student studying in the bedroom also can be a distraction because the bedroom can make the student tired. Studying at work can be another distraction because of other projects, assignments that the student may have to focus on before starting his or her school assignments. The student can minimize their distractions by studying somewhere quiet places both on campus and at home. The student can concentrate and develop a study mind-set each time they start their work. The student can also minimize distractions by turning off electronics devices such as a computer, Television, IPod, or any other devices with an on and off button.

Textbook Reading
Students can apply the four steps in active reading by following these steps; previewing, marking, reading with concentration, and reviewing. One step of active reading is previewing. Previewing allows the student to have a better understanding of what the student is about to read and how it connects with what the student already knows. To begin previewing the student can read the title of the chapter first this will allow the student to have an idea what the chapter will cover and what the student already knows about the subject. Another step is call marking. Two important guidelines to for marking; the first guideline is to read before marking. A student should finish reading then decide the most important ideas. The second guideline for marking is to think before marking. The student should ask himself what is the most important idea and also what will be on the test. Another step is reading with concentration can help the student improve his reading ability by finding a quiet study place that will pull the student away from distractions. Reading in blocks of time and with short breaks will help the student process the materials easier than reading for an hour. The last step is reviewing; this step is to help the student to review notes, study questions, flash cards, visual maps, or outlines. This will help the student to remember what ideas he has read and learned.

Primary Resources
The purpose of using primary resources this is the original research or document from the reading. Using the primary source is also a good way to gather information. If a textbook uses primary sources, the student will be able to find the primary sources at the end of the writing or the end of the book.
