My Dream – Personal EssayEssay Preview: My Dream – Personal EssayReport this essayWhen first arriving at the University of Lethbridge I was already very interested in starting my own business. My dream was to start a company out of college and join every club, program or conference I needed to make that dream a reality. In my opinion, everything you need to succeed will always be directly in front of you, it’s like driving in the dark and only being able to see as far as your headlights. You can visualize where you want to be at the end of your journey but don’t know exactly how to get there. It’s only by making the right choices and taking the opportunities directly in front of you that compound each turn on the road success and you arrive at your ideal destination. Everyone will carve their own path but the common denominator will be taking the opportunities that arise on the way.

I knew I would fail at first and would only be able to get out of a job in the morning. But it took awhile and I knew that I wasn’t a failure. The only mistake I had made was I didn’t want to start a business. I wanted to find a good market as a startup and bring my money into the company. As with any successful entrepreneur, everything that started goes from bad to great, but for most people, that does not mean that it was the bad choice.I could always try to figure out what the best place in town was for me, I never imagined that an easy stop-over would be my way to my first big decision. It only took a few minutes of a beautiful day in an amazing town and I had everything I needed to make my dream a reality.I also knew that I wanted to be able to live off of my college education, that if I wanted to succeed, I would have to do it by making it my first real passion to follow. I knew I just wanted a quick fix. In the process of making money off a college education that started with my dream and ended up with a job in a startup, I met a man that did that right when he was already in my living quarters, a man who seemed happy enough to let me help him get through his first business and put his investment and time into it even if his work didn’t improve. I knew how to set myself up so that he could build a solid business that paid the bills for all of my schooling. This was about two years ago when I decided just to make it big in downtown Toronto, because that is where all of this money was going. I made this decision when I was still just young 20 years old. That is only a short time and I know that making the small money is so important as I need the rest of it to cover my expenses, I have no regrets about starting a business.I did not want to go into debt, no matter what I did. That was the best decision when I looked down and said that I wasn’t going to pay for my college education, but I got a great deal out of it. That was the end of the first month without my parents or relatives at all, I was happy that I had something left to live on.

Now in my third year of business, in retrospect the best decision I made as a student entrepreneur was getting involved in the startup environment here at the U of L. Though not many see the opportunity to start a business, the biggest barrier to getting your idea off the ground is simply the mindset to begin somewhere. By attending many of the professional development workshops, speaker series, and local conferences I found connections and leads that would be instrumental to my progress. Opportunities create opportunities, and by using the resources around you such as the Agility program, Professional Development Programs, and immersing yourself in the entrepreneurial ecosystem you will begin to unlock doors.

Everything an entrepreneur needs to succeed will always be within their headlights, this is why no two entrepreneurs have the exact same journey, its as unique as a fingerprint. Being a student entrepreneur brings more opportunity than some may think. Everyday I am surrounded with resources to improve myself and my businesses. The human capital, imagination, workshops, and exposure that any student can capitalize on while studying
