When you murder someone, no matter how hard you try, you can never cover it up. Macbeth falls victim to this in the story Macbeth by Shakespeare, the question of what factor that leads to this downfall is an important question. The biggest downfall for Macbeth are the females in his life. The females that are the biggest downfall are the witches and Lady Macbeth because they convince Macbeth to not only commit the murder but also are a main reason why he gets caught.

The Witches are the first main female(s) that cause Macbeths downfall. When they first appear to Macbeth they are the ones who give Macbeth that initial spark and cause him to consider murdering Duncan. “First Witch :All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis!, Second Witch: All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor!, Third Witch:All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!(Act.1 Sc.3)” They are the ones who initially give him that spark and set off the whole conflict. Without the witches proclaiming this prophecy, he would have never killed Duncan and this whole issue would never have happened. Another way the Witches are a cause of Macbeth’s downfall is that they trick him into thinking he invincible.”Second Apparition: Be bloody, bold, and resolute. Laugh to scorn. The power of man, for none of woman born Shall harm Macbeth.(Act.4 Sc.1)” The Second Apparition, which was created by the witches, cause macbeth to think he is invincible and that it impossible for him to be murdered. This causes him to go into a false sense of security and not worry about the incoming forces that eventually lead to his death.

Lady Macbeth is the other main female that causes Macbeth’s downfall. When Macbeth first hears the witches prophecy, he at first finds it hard to commit the murder. He needed lady macbeths encouragement to commit the act. “What beast was ’t, then, That made you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man. Nor time nor place
