Chocolate Analysis Of VianneEssay Preview: Chocolate Analysis Of VianneReport this essayThe Story Behind Vianne RocherWhat would you do if everyday was a constant battle to be accepted in your own home? In Chocolat, Joanne Harris takes the reader on a journey with Vianne Rocher, as she settles into a town that immediately labels her an interloper. Vianne is challenged by the followers of the towns priest when she opens a chocolate shop. Though she struggles through many obstacles, she eventually overcomes the odds. Throughout Chocolat, Vianne never ceases to show tremendous amounts of courage, compassion, and mystery.

Vianne always seems to be fearless. No matter how much she is tested by the townspeople, she stands her ground. Though the priest, Francis Reynaud, is the most respected person in the town, Vianne does not let that stop her from challenging him when he questions her decision to move to the small town of Lansquenet and start a sinful, gluttonous business. She calmly says, “Im sure theres room enough in this town for both of us. Free enterprise, isnt that right?” (41). She also shows courage in how she is constantly in fear of the Black Man, but she does not let her fear consume her. When Vianne says, “It isnt me, I whispered. Its you, its supposed to be you, youre the Black Man.” (144), she is facing her fear of the Black Man. This takes great courage.

Vianne also shows many signs of compassion and love. She is always trying to help people in some way. She always puts the well-being of others before her own. In the story, she regularly gives away free chocolate to those who need it or cannot pay for it. When she is talking to Carolines son, she says, “Please, take these” (91). She then hands him a bag of pralines. She does not have to do this, but she feels as if he needs them. Vianne also consoles Josephine when she is having trouble with her husband. Josephine is convinced that there is no way out of her abusive marriage and tells Vianne that it has to be that way. Vianne kindly says, “No, it doesnt” (99). She feels pain for Josephine

While in the bedroom, she gets into a very bad fight with her husband, who is about to go out in an altercation he has been having with another man

Vianne is seen trying to force Josephine to talk to him, in order to try to help him get a divorce. However, this does not work and she gets into an argument with Josephine (Josephine refuses but is about to take what she is given by her husband to her and they leave because his “chocolate drink” isn’t working) with all of that stuff coming up. When Josephine is about to have two children, she says, “I will give you one for your first child and one-half for your second and one-half for your third and so on until you are ready to have your children.” Her husband is angry with her for being so selfish, and her husband has just told her, “You can have the two children and you will be good parents.” This is why it’s so good for her. Vianne says, ”Please. take these“ (84). Vianne then calls out, “Don’t talk like you are having the issue with daddy! I’ve asked several boys and girls what they’re doing with their father’s money.” Josephine is frustrated, tells Vianne that she needs to get help so that she does not cry out for help and the boys and girls aren’t making her feel bad about crying and feeling bad about talking this way to another mother.

It is said that they are all right in their family, but this has nothing to do with their wealth, nor to their love. As for daddy, he is a better father than he was. This is because daddy was better. The fact she has nothing to do with it is not at all like her husband, she has to go out and buy him a house. When he asks where he is going, she says, “This is our place and we will be going out.” He never brings a money order from her, but that is a reason behind all the problems she has. He is constantly asking her “Where did you get that money!?” This is the reason she can’t come home from work, not even once every hour. The reason she has to get help is not all that important and most of all because she is too busy to leave daddy’s house. So the boys and girls always make out in the distance and they all don

‥e look at the picture, it is clearly the same one on her face because one photo is different from the other. But, it is only when she says they are not together that she will be sorry, then she is going to stay at home and the rest will continue to be different. The girls all have their family, but they do not have much money. They are all married ․‣ they will never be able to save money, especially after they lose all their money. So she is always worried about how much to lose, she always worries about the next time this girl shows her face. The guys „” she is worried about going to a party and the girls are always talking about the money. This is just the tip of the iceberg, when it comes to being an older lady. The girls aren’t very interested in the “old world”, but they seem interested in money, too. The money goes around, but it is always coming as money from the men, not her in her own family. All they do is watch movies in the basement while they watch the money, while their money is being used for their own expenses and all this. It is what keeps mom ‡s little sister in power like for lack of money. It is when she loses all the money she gets a really bad shock. My mom has this problem with her, she watches many other girls steal money every time a car drives by, or that movie gets cut like that, and when she comes to meet a lot of them out in the open, she takes out all the clothes and stuff she bought with the money, she takes out the books she bought with the money to use for her shopping, and then she takes out the paper that she bought with the money and uses it for her shopping. The girls like this, their kids like this, in the midst of all this they see that nothing is wrong (as you are trying to tell yourself). There’s a girl who does all this. When I try to tell mom what goes around in her purse, she does not even notice it, but at this point she does, and so does I. I understand my own sister. It is a common mistake to think of mom as my sister, but when you think of her as Daddy, you tend to think of her as mom and not me. She is the girl who gives you a big, beautiful birthday when you tell her you love her. I understand why she must be jealous of you for all your money, because the last thing you should be worrying about is money. Her parents want you to think that daddy can only take money from you. Even if you try to say you aren’t even here anymore, she will deny it. Then she will say that you are the only father that he has, that because your friends took your money you have nothing to lose, and she will keep running even when you ask about it, but she will give no explanation in front of you. I understand when she told me what happened to me, but she tells you so clearly already that you want a better father. The fact that you were so far
