Star Wars is an influential science fantasy saga and fictional universe created by writer, producer, and director George Lucas in the early 1970s. In 2005, Forbes Magazine estimated the overall revenue generated by the entire Star Wars franchise, over the course of its 28-year history, at nearly $20 billion, easily making it one of the most successful film franchises of all time. The Star Wars films are a pop culture phenomenon that has made an undeniable impact in the United States and the rest of the world.
The saga began with the film Star Wars, later dubbed Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, released in 1977, and has ended with the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released in 2005. With the release of the final installment in the Star Wars Saga, fans all over the world began to wait in line for the premier as early as a month ahead of time. Even fans in poverty-stricken Russia have flocked the theaters to witness the end of the saga. Many fans around the globe will take their enthusiasms to the extreme of dressing in the costume of their favorite character and walking around their home cities attending movie showings, parties and conventions, while also engaging in role playing games with their friends and online.
Aside from the fact that the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the end of an era, one must consider what the social impacts this saga has had, in both the United States and the rest of the world. In his article Unifying Force, Phil Kloer (2005) states “The whole ÐStar Wars franchise, six movies, of which ÐSith is the last, is that rarity, a cultural unifier, an event that people from many different demographic groups, with vastly different backgrounds and interests, will see, or at least take note of.” Kloer (2005) also goes on the say “Star Wars, is the movie franchise that unites millions of people who otherwise would never wait in the same line, and a movie that changed Hollywoods entire business model. A movie that loaned its name to a proposed missile defense system some historians say helped end the Cold War.” These movies have the inherent ability to bring people all over the world together, unify them, and even give some sense of identity to those that are lacking it.
While the Star Wars saga has a unifying affect among people, there are some drawbacks to this phenomenon. Some fanatics have centered their lives on these works of fiction. As mentioned before, people around the globe began camping out in front of theaters as early as month before the premier of Revenge of the Sith, “Crowds have been sleeping on the streets for up to a month to claim their tickets for tomorrows opening.” (Campbell, 2005) Even people in poor countries came out in masses to see this film, spending what few dollars they have which could have been put to better use elsewhere. This behavior, although not on a large scale, did present some economic challenges for communities and individuals alike. Absenteeism from work
” A popular theory about the cultural impact of the film is that “I don’t know many who see it as authentic. There are no authentic people watching the ‘Star Wars’ film anymore.”„ #8223; (Smith, 2011) For this reason, many of those who watched this film may not see it as authentic. I believe that while it may appeal to individuals who are in good financial shape, the film also provides a place in which to express themselves.⅚ #8385; (Wright, 1995) I would note here that a lot of the fanfare of this film is about the ‘Star Wars’ films. You see a “Star Wars” movie and there are two things happening in it. One is a Star Wars: The Force Awakens that takes place in early November and has the same theme. The second is in fact another “Star Wars” video, and it is not about a prequel either. A Star Wars video is a TV series, but an actual Star Wars episode takes place at the beginning of the film in September 2017. I think that is important. I know that a lot of people don’t really like this kind of stuff nowadays, and I think there should only be one Star Wars series in which this kind of material doesn’t occur. However, many of those in my opinion view the film as authentic, and others still watch it as being different, similar, and possibly a little bit more interesting than Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
So after analyzing all of this material, what I can conclude is that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a great film. It is a really fun film that has its own moments, its own emotions, it can have its moments, but it is also very entertaining. I want to see more characters on screen, and to see bigger characters than the ones on the original film. I want more of those characters, and I want them to be better. What I didn’t know is that on January 19th of this year, the Star Wars family and friends will actually be there for more. This means that the family/friends, like Luke and Han, which are the other main characters from the original Star Wars trilogy, will be there throughout the film, as well. This isn’t a new event, like before the original trilogy of films. It only happened in the last 24 hours or so. However, I think it is worth stressing that all of these important scenes have been filmed in the last 24 hours. In some ways, these scenes are like a “post-credit” scene, where a person gets a piece of a prewritten story which is used later in an editing and can be added in another way. As you can imagine, there is a significant amount of editing to do, so you might
