Kudler Fine Foods is a California-based food retailer. Kudler has 3 locations, and each store has separate departments that keep up with their own accounts. The current accounting system tracks the information with an Excel spreadsheet, called the ‘Chart of Accounts’. Kudler has decided that there is a need for a new chart of accounts system that will be programmed using SQL Server. In anticipation of new reports that management will be requesting this has resulted in the submission of Service Request SR-kf-009. Management wants this database to facilitate more decision making at the store and department levels. This request consists of converting the Chart of Accounts table using SQL Server and a new column for the account balance is added to that table.

Kudler is in need of a new Chart of Accounts for its finance department, according to the Service Request. The company is growing rapidly and the decentralized accounting procedures are making it difficult to manage all the accounting processes. With a centralized SQL database that all stores can access through a single interface will ease the burden of trying to keep up with each stores own accounting policies. The new SQL database will contain all the current information and allow users pull reports easily with the addition of the balance field. This will give management another benefit by converting to SQL and adding the balance field at the same time of implementation. The major limitation with the existing system was the format and accessibility to the data. Managers would be using single Excel files in each location to track their accounts. Some of these accounts are shared across stores and departments so the information that needs to be shared in vital. Many accounting errors have been generated due to the current process.

The advantages of the SQL implementation will allow for more usability and capacity for future growth. A number of advantages will be gained with this project. Once the chart of accounts has been successfully upgraded to a SQL platform, additional areas of finance and accounting can be reviewed
