Distinct IntelligencesEssay Preview: Distinct IntelligencesReport this essayDistinct IntelligencesI am a clumsy college student who would not survive without GPS navigation on my phone. I have always struggled in math classes, and I find it hard to be secluded from others. While Howard Gardner writes about all humans having seven intelligences, it is apparent that we are not all the same. Therefore, there are those (intelligences) that are more pronounced than others. I do not believe that I excel in spatial intelligence but I do believe that I am musically inclined, linguistic, and interpersonal.

While people are known to have all intelligences, some are more distinguished than others. For as long as I can remember I have always reacted to music, whether it is lyrical or instrumental. Even though I am not gifted with the talent of playing an instrument I still enjoy singing. I can sit for hours and just listen to music. I have never truly had a preference. I enjoy classical music while I study. Starting in fifth grade I joined a choir class and stayed put until my junior year of high school. This has made it easy to for me to learn songs by ear and pick out keys, crescendos, and flats & sharps. Next is linguistic intelligence, which includes having good oral communication skills. This fits me for a variety of reasons. Writing has always been a passion of mine. And grammar is important as well. I do occasionally use words that I do not understand, to challenge myself. However, I make sure to learn the correct way to use them. Spanish for example, is a language that I love to listen to. It is hard for me to learn, but I do pay attention to detail and sometime can understand words here and there. And my friends are there to help me correct my incorrect way on saying things. This plays a little into my third and final most impressionable intelligences., interpersonal. As stated earlier I am a social and outgoing person. I have always been eager to meet new people and make new friends. I feel that I am more attuned to other people, this makes me more empathetic person. It is easy to sympathize with people and listen to what they need to say.

As I said I was very involved from a little kid until my freshman year in college. I was always busy doing something at school, church, or with the community. Musically, I was part of my church choir. While I can not play an instrument I still learned by ear and had my share of tiny solos. In school, the only thing that helped me survive choir is that I sing on key after hearing the note. This was the time that I really started performing in school. This love of performances ties into my interpersonal intelligence. I enjoyed performing with different groups. When performing it is important to pay attention to the crowd ans see how they gauge your performance. This makes it easier to give individualized attention to different people. Last, linguistics makes me more concerned with how I speaking. In high school

I was always influenced by the teachers of the local high school, particularly the members of the university. Once I graduated and began teaching, I had more to tell about my knowledge and how I used to speak to students.

I had been studying anthropology, linguistics, and other areas during summer, so I was excited about the prospect of being the part of an elite society. And this isn’t to say that my ability to communicate through text has been all-consuming. I am a very creative person and am constantly trying to make my own writing clearer by drawing on myself and using text. However, there has been times when I have been able to give feedback to a group as part of a group activity. These can be as simple as reading a journal entry or a song lyric. During the first year or two, I was constantly studying for writing and I was always interested in the possibility to work as a writer. When I was at work, I would frequently start my sentence over and over. I really wanted to have an outlet for my personal writing and be able to contribute to the conversation on the site. This is what I did. By taking some practice with my writing and being patient I got an easier task at the end.
