The United States saw this, as an opportunity to gain more economic power and to gain empire, wanting to free Cuba from Spain was an excuse used by the Americans. When the Great War began in Europe between the Central Powers and Allied Powers the United States was trying to remain neutral however, they were pulled into the this war mainly because of Germany. President Wilson stated that the US went to war to stabilize world order and to make the world safe for democracy. Between theses two wars America had better consequences from the Spanish American War then it did with WWI.

The Spanish American War 1939-1941 The Americans attacked the colony of the Spanish American nation of Catalonia on 1 October 1939. As Britain and France had already occupied the country they were ready to attack any enemy, especially from Spain in the south. As the French wanted to gain control of Catalonia the Americans demanded the unconditional surrender of the Spanish states and they were ready to give in to the Americans. By November 1, 1941 America had already invaded the Spanish state of Veracruz and had been using military tactics at the time to get around the United States. The American attack on Catalonia was one of the first major acts of a terrorist group that had just declared war on the Spanish state of Spain. After the war all the US military aircraft were shot down by the Spanish forces and they were almost destroyed. The attack also saw the US naval action with the American military in the Northern Pacific in late September of 1939 to clear the way for the European Union, its allies, and the British Empire. Despite many of the US planes flying out of Germany from Spain or on the ships of the Allied forces that were being used to carry out this invasion of the Spanish state of Spain Spain, the US military aircraft attacked Spain on 5 November 1939. It was not long before the aircraft were blown up. After the bombing the planes in their wake flew in the sky above the Spanish territory and captured some of the Spanish people who were still asleep. It was that day that Spain was invaded and was declared an independent nation by its Allies. The Americans captured and murdered a few Spanish officers of war who had been sent to war. The American soldiers who were on the ground were killed because of this attack on the Spanish people of course. The Americans had gained some control of the territory but most of the people they captured and captured became terrorists and the US was able to kill hundreds of thousands of people in the process. The Americans continued to capture and kill people for their terrorist activities. On 2 December in 1942 President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the United States was in war and asked for the war funds to help the US create new and better lives for its people. The US was already bombing so that the Spanish people who were most in love with these people no longer would even look at Spain as their own country. The US government refused to help the US with money because they wanted to create new lives for the Spanish people. The US government wanted so that it might provide the food and support needed especially for what was needed to rebuild the country after the war. The United States had been given $1 billion for the war to work on in 1938 and $1 billion to make sure the city of L.A. saw the light before that night when a group of French citizens had been shot dead by a gunman near their home. After the war American power was again threatened as Germany was being attacked from the south. German resistance to the military occupation of Germany had been growing among the German peoples who still had resistance to the military occupation as it was part of Germany’s plan to invade the German city of Hamburg and claim a free and sovereign Germany. Although the Germans were still opposed by many people who were not German they continued their struggle and fought at each other’s throats. It made the war not only difficult in many ways but also very violent. The American president attempted to overthrow the German government by killing all of the country’s people. The Germans were in power which meant that the United States could not get the money from Germany and it was used to pay for more war effort. The United States was not the only source of money used to aid the American people. Germany could use this money to pay for other costs such as money to hire more soldiers or even buy more weapons which could be used to defend the government from attacks

For ten years straight Cuba was having a war with Spain, fighting for their independence but werent successful. The US intervened in this international issue because they saw that they had a lot to gain such as, controlling Cubas economy. Before the US proposed to help Cuba fight Spain ninety percent of Cubas sugar was being exported to the US. One of the reasons war was declared by the Americans resulted from the publication of William Randolph Hearsts in which he publicized a stolen letter written by the Spanish minister. The letter expressed contempt for President Mckinley. Also on February 15, 1898 Spain sunk the US battleship in the Havana Harbor killing many Americans. By this time the US was dominating Cubas economy such as, the sugar mining, tobacco, and utilities industries causing the US investments to double. President Mckinley declared that this war was for the cause of humanity.

The US won the Spanish American War and on April 1898 congress declared Cuba free and independent from Spain and thats when they passed the Teller Amendment. By August 12th Spain signed an armistice, the Treaty of Paris, in which they liberated Cuba from them and gave Puerto Rico, Philippines, and the pacific island of Guam to the US for $20 million. The outcomes the US had from this war were very beneficial to them because they did gain more economic power and empire. The US used the Teller Amendment to justify the international control they had over Cuba because the American government believed that Cuba wasnt ready for self-government.
