Research and Data

Homework Two
I strongly disagree with Nicholas Carrs interpretation of what the internet is doing to our brains. In his opinion, search engines such as google and operating systems are helping to rewire our brain and the way it works. I believe this to be far from the truth.

It is my belief that we as humans have simply adapted to using the internet as our most simple search tool for any and all information rather than we have stooped to a level of intelligence that deems it nessacary. There are still many instances when other sources of information are required such as for a research paper that requires multiple forms of media sources.

All that one must remember in order to use the internet safely as a source is that everything on the internet is not true and we must consider sources to make sure what we are reading is in fact true. Anyone can post anything on the internet as fact so we should not take something written on wikipedia for instance as fact.

Carr states that the younger generation does not know how to use other sources of information because we have become so spoiled by the use of internet and google in particular. This is not true. I find myself frequently going to the library to get secondary sources at the least for something I may have read online. The web is where I started my search, but not where it ended.

I believe that Nicholas Carr is out of touch with the younger generation and does not think very much of people my age. He does not believe we are capable of using secondary sources. This is not true.
