EDUCATION AND LIFE:A SOCIAL PROCESSSUBMITTED BY:ANA MAE S. GUILLENBSE- ENGLISH2ND YEARSUBMITTED TO:Mrs. LIBERTY BERNARDOEducational Theory        Since education is a process it cannot be autonomous, but is an expression of the ideas, hopes, and aspirations of the existing social organization and the religious, economic, and political forces, everything that makes up the total culture of a group, both spiritual and material.        The ultimate character of that theory is determined by that particular environment, cultural, political, social and economic forces which make up the life organized society. The two important elements, (1) the fact that man is a biological animal that is educable and trends to adjust himself to the environmental influences around him. (2) The fact that he is only a social or political organization that can develop his capacities to the outmost. The close relationship between education and politics was recognized by Plato and Aristotle, who maintain that the stability of the state depends upon education, in other words, “as is the state, so is education”.The teacher        It is the responsibility of the teacher to interrelate the pupil and his environment. When the curriculum was prescribed uniformly and in detail by the administrative authorities, the teacher was regarded as the purveyor of knowledge and information.Roles and ExpectationsThe teacher was expected to acquire sufficient knowledge to keep ahead of his pupils and skill in imparting that knowledge. With advancement of knowledge and of the increasing complexity of modern life, the preparation of teacher is shifting from training in certain methodological devices to professional education, which demands not merely extended general cultural education but a larger period of professional study. The teacher must have an appreciation of the social meaning and purpose of education as well as knowledge of the particular subject which has to teach in the light of its use in the development of the pupils and their future place as citizens. He must know more about the psychology of the child as a growing personality, his growth, and learning process. He is expected to know something about the health of his students, and the effect of physical condition on intellectual progress as well as about their particular abilities and even disabilities, and about their environment, and social background.
