Social Determinants of HealthHealing Practices for Nurses – PNH101N1BInstructor: ANNELIA EPIEOctober 26, 2015Introduction education income unemployment or early childhood The Social determinants of health (SDH) are the circumstancesin which human beings are born, raised up, work, live and develop, and the economical strategies, social standards affecting their daily life. The social determinants of health can impact individual daily live physically, psychologically and financially. For instance, parents who raise their children on their own carry double responsibility of a parent. Thus, it is obvious that will perform double responsibility, which leads to distress situations and bigger economical responsibilities. Individuals in those households may not eat fiber and vitamin rich foods and this may cause to vitamin deficiency disease.  As a result they will be less productive in their studies and at work. It is the financial independency of a parent determines the health of the household. As it is stated by Kozier, the Canadian concept of health is seriously influenced by the social determinants of healthaccording to whichhealth of the individuals are formed by the environment, which they live-in rather than the medical treatmentsthey are provided to or the lifestyle they prefer to live. These living conditions of daily practices have beenrecognized as the social determinants of health (Kozier et.al, 2012). Social determinants of health are the causes that influence individual’sdaily livingcondition to their Education, mental health and unemployment.Jessica Riley-Family History         In this household, Jessica is a 17 years old single mom who was also raised up by a single mother (Evelyn). She has two younger siblings. When Jessica was 7 thefather left leaving all the responsibility to Evelyn. Regardless the hardship Evelyn go through, Jessica did not take a lesson. Before she finishes her high school, she got pregnant from her boyfriend and he left her alone when she was 4 months pregnant to Ryan.  Thus, Jessica conflicts with herself, her supportive mom and it became an obstacle in herstudies. Also Jessica mental health was influenced by the stressful situation in the single parented home. Jessica decided to leave her mom and jumbled to a new relationship with Casey. She became pregnant again from Casey. Casey was unemployed and unhappy. He was unable to take care of Rayan and start to abuse Jessica. She was pregnant and working extra hours for the family.Jessica was denies the abuse and afraid Casey will leave her alone. This endangers Ryan’s health and Jessica as well.

Social Determinants of HealthJessica’s was raised up by a single mother who performs double responsibility to raisea family. At the age of 7 she grew up observing her mother’s stressful situations to fulfill the needs of the 3 children. At timesit is obvious the mother may need Jessica to help take caring of her sibling. This situation can create distress to Jessica childhood and can lead to further mental illness. Mental health is an important factor for people to make prober decision in their life. Jessica stressful childhood impacted her to have two unplanned pregnancies from people she do not know well. The impact of mental health and its contribution in health outcomes assures the importance of individuals in a community; also it does not mean that we should disregard the mental character and power of the person. Mental disorders are accountable for one third of Years Lived with Disability (YLD) in the world. Also various researches exhibited that the occurrence of mental disorder in woman is more than men. (Monir et.al, 2014). This illuminates Jessica’s mother may have experienced depressive situation after her partner left her and also to raise three children on her own. And obviously this will affect heavy stress in the lives of Jessica who is heavy smoker and drinks, and does not exercise in her daily life. Second, Jessica lacks education and she leads her life with blind eyes. For instance, Jessica did not know the use and advantaged of birth contraceptives that avoid unplanned pregnancies. Her lack of awarenessto medication and lack of openness to ask and learn lead Jessica to have two unplanned pregnancies in four months difference. Jessica did not give her body enough time to recover the strength and nutrients (iron) the body lost during birth. Young individuals who do not finishtheir college studies are certainly to get a lower socio economic status than those who finish their further education and skills. In 2005, 66.9% of Canadians with a post secondary educational qualifications, exhibited to be in an excellent or very good health status versus 42.9% of which that do not a high-school diploma. (Shankar, et.al.2013). Jessica’s failure to put education the top of her priorities caused her to live her life ignorantly, worsen her problems and deteriorate her health to lower levels.
