Descriptive Essay – Little Island
The gleaming reflection of the cloudless blue sky and the sand as if it had been bleached were the first things I noticed about this little island.         We noticed that the elevator to our floor seemingly never stopped. I felt as though we had been ascending for so long now, surely we would have stopped. But no, when we finally reached our level everything made sense, we had reached the top floor suite. Yes, entire floor was essentially our sandbox to play with and explore freely, shifting individual grains to fit our liking.         I suppose you can never truly understand the massiveness of the ocean, but for this period of time I feel like I was the closest to understanding how grand it was, watching out from the balcony you could see for so long but you could never see what was at the end. It makes you feel small quite honestly, it completely and utterly dwarfs everything on this Earth. Though not extremely profound I came to an idea that perhaps we, as humans, are not quite as important to this world as we may want to believe but that we should not use that as a reason to not care, rather use it to improve upon ourselves and how we interact with such a god-like thing this lovely world of ours.        I don’t think I will ever forget going on late night walks with my close friend to get waffles and coffee because we didn’t have food in the room. The smell of the coffee and the sugary syrup is a smell that all others pale in comparison to, we made chit chat with the employees working at the wretched hours and it seemed obvious to both of us that they were glad to serve people like us who wanted to engage them slightly. The long walk back was welcome as we walked along empty roads listening to the slow quiet rocking of the water beneath the giant bridge. We would stop and stare at what seemed to be a still, lifeless ocean but we even though it didn’t appear so, we knew it was hard at work.
