AmbionMBA-1, Section 1Ms. Teresita LimboCollege of Engineering and Information TechnologyFebruary 24, 2018CASE STUDY NO Ā 1How do smart grids differ from the current electricity infrastructure in the United States?Unlike the current electricity infrastructure used by the United States which consists of energy companies providing power to consumers where information is restricted, smart grids actually deliver electricity straight from electricity provider to the consumers using digital technology. This allows better communication between provider and consumers. Also, the digital technology used by smart grids saves energy, reduces costs and increases reliability and transparency. It also has the ability to detect power outages more quickly and precisely giving the consumer accurate information.

What management, organization, and technology issues should be considered when developing a smart grid? From management perspective, issues to be considered are the complete grid compliance, the cost to be capitalized to install the grid, the reliability of the grid, customers awareness, workforce skill requirements such as developer of the system and contingency plan for any unfavorable outcomes. With regards to the perspective of organization, legal compliance, systems integration and cyber security are just some of the issues to ponder on. Networks requirements, communication systems needed to transfer information back and forth between consumer and provider and tracking systems for energy use are some of the technological issues that may be faced throughout the adoption of the smart grids. What challenge to the development of smart grids do you think is most likely to hamper their development? We all know that developing any process that needed to have the newest technology trend (like those smart grids) can also develop a lot of challenges. One issue in establishing Ā smart grids that I feel would likely hinder the development is the total cost or amount of this project. Another one is the accuracy of the technological system that will be incorporated. And lastly, the impact it would contribute to the financial loss of the existing power companies. What other areas of our infrastructure could benefit from ā€œsmartā€ technologies? Describe one example not listed in the case.Based on the case study, electricity grids are sized to meet the maximum electricity needs, making the demand for expensive power plants to drop. We all know that power plants poses environmental concerns such as emission carbon dioxide, which may contribute to climate change. In addition, this sector has significant impacts on water and habitat and species
