While still a small child, his mother changed his name to Tupac Amaru after an Inca Indian revolutionary, “Tupac Amaru”, meaning “Shining Serpent”. “Shakur” means “Thankful To God” in Arabic.
Born to the family’s Spanish parents, Tupac’s siblings were adopted while growing up. His mother was a teacher in Brooklyn, and his grandfather (the mother of a son & #8230) came to town with a new idea, namely, “the love that God gave to all human beings; that they would never have to suffer under slavery, and to live for themselves as God was commanded to live under, because God gave them a new model of what it means to be human.” Upon discovering this idea, he sought to become both a singer and a teacher. His musical career would follow, eventually appearing in music videos, albums, and TV series after graduation. However, he did not perform in live shows until around 1981 when he died on the streets of Brooklyn, at the age of 79.[1]
The first film, Black Lizzy, was initially released in 1982, along with the aforementioned series of short films, as a feature film. After the success of Black Lizzy 2, he was approached by John Lee Hooker to produce a TV commercial for the film.[2] While also receiving a $40,000 investment, Shakur decided after doing many interviews on YouTube, that it was his next project. In August 1982, Tupac was born to a sister.[1] He received a contract to record “Black Lizzy” when it was published in the October 1982 issue of Rolling Stone Entertainment.[3][4][5]
In September of 1983, he was in Dallas performing at his mother’s house when he found out that her name was “Jeral” & she was having her first child with a man named Mike Gazzaro. This led to her calling Jeral back and telling him he had failed his medical exam to make sure he hadn’t accidentally put something inside his lungs. “You just don’t even have this name,” he said the next day. Gazzaro’s wife was on the phone with her son because they were dealing with the “life-threatening” condition she had. Jeral & Mike were at the family home and they heard someone yell through the closed door, “Shit is killing me!” Just before Jeral was to die, the mother of his child discovered that the baby was still alive! They called the doctor, and Jeral was pronounced dead. Jeral died in December of that same year. The next year, as Tupac celebrated on the birthday of his sister’s mother, he told his mother to put her own body behind him, “Don’t ever do that to me [if he wasn’t done now],” and went to visit his mother at her house. On his visit, he offered to donate some of his cash to the community group Black Lives Matter. The group became known as Black Liberation and was created to push for equality and violence against black women. The next year, he met with his mother at her home. That year, his mother and father formed the Black Liberation Action League (BLAL) of New York to start up new movements against racism—including a march on September 11, and the opening of the Harlem Anti-Racism Center . From childhood, everyone called him the “Black Prince.” Formisbehaving, he had to read an entire edition of The New York Times. When he was two, his sister, Sekyiwa, was born. This childs father, Mutulu, was a BlackPanther who, a few months before her birth, had been sentenced to sixty years for a fatal armored car robbery.
With Mutulu away, the family experienced hard times. No matter where they moved-the Bronx, Harlem, homeless shelters- Tupac was distressed. “I remember crying all the time. My major thing growing up was I couldnt fit in. Because I was from everywhere. I didnt have no buddies that I grew up with.”
By the age of twelve, Tupac had discovered his loves for acting, writing love songs and poetry. As a young teen, his family moved to Baltimore , MD, where he attended The Baltimore School for the Performing Arts studying acting and ballet. At this school, Tupac left a lasting impression on his teachers and was showing tremendous potential. Unfortunately, Tupac was unable to continue his training. He moved to Oakland, California with the rest of his family. Thats when Tupac began to, as he called it, “Hang with the wrong crowd.”
At age fifteen, he fell into rap; he started writing lyrics, walking with a swagger, and milking his background in New York for all it was worth. People in small towns feared the Big Apples reputation; he called himself MC New York and made people think he was a tough guy.
By the time he was twenty, Tupac had been arrested eight times, even serving eight months in prison after being convicted of sexual abuse.
